27hfs patio cable kit?

So I have a 2012 XLR 27HFS Hyper lite and I have had it for about a year now. My wife and I love the trailer and have used it a lot. We have been to several places in NC,SC,TN, and KY. The one thing my wife and I both want to be able to do is use the garage gate as a patio. We have used three inch PVC pipe to support the gate but it is problematic in sites that aren't level toward the back of the site or if we are at a water front site that has a incline in rear of the site. I have tried searching the internet and the forums here and have had no luck at finding anything. I have seen people drill the gate frames and put eye bolts in and go get coated cables but I am not for sure if that is a good idea or not or if it safe to do. So I am coming to the people who have more experience with this than I. This makes our first TH and second trailer. We learned a lot from our old trailer, a 92 Jayco Eagle. I worry about the eye bolt idea because of leaks. Within first 3 months we owned the Jayco, I had to rebuild the rear part of the trailer due to a long term undetected leak, I found it by literally falling thru the floor. I don't want to have to do that with this trailer. We bought it used, the previous owners only used it a few times and decided to sell it. I haven't had any issues with the trailer but I just want make some changes that suit my wife and I.

Thanks ahead of time.

I'm interested in doing the same .I have seen the units that come with the patio set up and it looks as if it's just two cables holding the door up along with guard rails so people don't fall off . I'm pretty sure it's that simple but have not yet got into doing anything . Maybe be this winter while in FL

To make the ramp a "Party Deck" requires ordering it from your dealer,
comes with a new reinforced ramp with safety rails, and cables, at a cost of around $2500.00

We have the 27hfs as well and i don't feel the ramp would make a good party deck it would have to be stronger or have a good frame under it. so it didn't bend out of shape

I really wanted this option but then realized the TT would be the original 37ft plus 8 or 10 ft more. Not too many places where you can open, plus the bugs getting in from going in and out, just seemed like a really cool bad idea. If there were a sliding door when the ramp was down, I think I'd be more for it.

We generally leave room for the ramp to come down and the bike to go in and out anyway. If we can't fit in the space that way generally I have to park the truck somewhere else. But I prefer to keep everything together if I can. I like to keep the bikes inside when not being used.

nothing about what goes on with our haul around houses can really be considered real camping

So true. Been camping 45 years, the last 20 in trailers. In every state but Alaska and Hawaii. The tents were true camping...and I don't miss them at all!

I made some brackets and got some plastic coated cable from work to basically mimick the factory installed units since my stealth didnt have the option. For now we use baby gates but eventually id like to mimick the aluminum framed rails, since I cant justify spending thousands of dollars on a kit, that more or less may cost a few hundred for the materials.

Certain families may have different situations for its use. For example, my wife and I love the idea to help give us more room for our 11 month old to crawl around. It still gives the sense of being outside without being outside, and especially comes in handy when we frequent the sometimes crowded deserts with people riding by on OHV's.

This is one guys idea... pretty good one. With kids you need the rails, without kids be careful... Look for the post by DB Cooper

I don't miss tents either , but sometimes i'm still forced to use them to get where needed for hunting N fishing . Then the RV makes a great base camp to regroup and recharge

Seems the ramps are the same it's only the cables and rails that appear to be included in the $2500.00 kit

I recall Bullet Bob stating in another thread (can't find it at the moment) that when opting for the patio option from the factory, it comes with a reinforced ramp to help prevent pressure dings and such.

I looked into the patio deck through my dealer here in the St. Louis area, and was told that it in included a new reinforced ramp, they had to apply new decals to, and the rails.

We all know you can't trust what dealers say . the ramp all ready needs to be strong to support all the gear driven up them like a 900 lbs bike ,or atv, golf carts etc .
can't imagine needing a stronger ramp to hold a couple 200 lbs people
when i ride my bike up the ramp i'm looking at 1125 lbs no dents yet .along with walking up and down the ramp while down hauling up generators and other gear weighing 140lbs with hard wheels
so this reinforced door idea seems to be a sales gimmick .

The same dings caused by walking up and down the ramp , or loading bikes and gear ?

Not sure , you would think it would work, but connecting cables to the ramp, I am not sure about, drilling holes and using eyebolts and washers???

Not sure about how to fasten it either . I'd need to see one set up as a patio first . most likely could get the same fasteners as the manufacture uses .
