I can understand the noise issue of an under bed gen . most of my outtings will be in the rocky mtns so no ac usage at night needed. set up each for their own needs

I have a shockwave and my generator is up front under the bed... I covered my generator box is 80mil Fatmat and lowered my db from 74 to 70 in the bed room. In the main living area it went from 72 to 64.

In the bedroom it is noticeable and the only other way to quiet it anymore at this point is an exhaust extension.

I'm happy with my results though. Just my .02

Roolie19 what might you expect if you doubled the sound barrier ? or went over what you put up with a thicker type foam ? I was considering first spraying truck bed liner in the gen compartment and then sound proofing on the outsides .

I have to ask why spend over $2000 for 2 2000 watt units when you can get a nice 4000 watt operated off gas that runs from our fill stations , [that is if you have a fill station ] with a 30 gallon capacity ? even the 3000 watt portable hands are in the 21 to 23 Hundred dollar range . Now the cheaper 4000 or even 5000 watt portables can be had for under 500 or so ?

Just wondering why people choose one over the other .
I'm pretty sure I'll go with the onan , installed in the compartment all ready built into and pre wired with my 29 . a little sound proofing a little insulation and for 2898 delivered done and done . then i can use the extra room of the a frame for a few batteries etc . maybe mount a good tool box
What kind of gen and where did you get it for 2898?

Most likely not. With the pipe from the exhaust below the bedroom window I'm sure that's where most the sound is going now.

I'm talking about one of these setups.

My statement that LPG doesn't produce lethal exhaust isn't correct. If a poorly tuned LPG engine is operated in a confined space or without proper ventilation it can be dangerous. Even a little CO (carbon monoxide) is bad for your health. My thinking was that LPG itself is non-lethal (see attached); colorless; orderless (naturally), but when burned, it can be lethal. The problem is incomplete combustion in any internal combustion engine. Thanks, Youroo. link doesn't work brezzyhillfarm.

How about one of these , atv type exhaust silencer . I'm sure it could be fitting the the exhaust . a muffler shop could bend a pipe or 2 with some hangers etc . the unit you posted looks good for taking the exhaust up and out of the way . But wonder how well it would reduce noise . a true silencer can reduce the noise by 50% .
Just a thought

Moving the exhaust would help.
Think of it this way. Let's say you have a truck with aftermarket exhaust that only comes out one side.... The truck will be louder on one side the exhaust comes out vs the side that doesn't have the pipe... Just like how it is with the trailer. It's very quiet on the right side but if you go to the left side it's louder as that's the way it points. A good amount of sound the generator produces is from the exhaust. The intakes too on some can produce a good amount of noise depending on how it's built.

Plus you wouldn't want to add an additional silencer as it would increase the back pressure and build additional heat which will change the performance and longevity of the machine as it wasn't designed for an additional silencer.

I'm not about to change the exhaust. I MIGHT so the extension but highly doubt I'll do it.... One because I'm cheap and two because I don't think it's that loud. All I wanted to do was reduce interior noise which I did.

the additional silencer would not add to back pressure or heat , they are larger dia and will muffle sound without increasing back pressure , we are talking about 11/8' exhaust . a extra silencer with a 1.5' in and out would just help reduce sound . most of the atv silencers are meant to be used with the existing muffler . the set up you show would redirect exhaust gas , but doubt it will reduce noise that much as it has a separation between the 2 units IMO

2 EU2000s run everything. If a/c is not needed, one is sufficient.
