29hfs led lights inside cabinet above tv

I want to mount a led light strip inside the cabinet above the tv. There are factory lights on top of the cabinet. My question is can I hook in to the power and ground for the existing led's and if so does anyone know of a easy peel and stick led kit to do this with? I tried to attach some pics but apparently my phone is way smarter than I am...

Check out this thread:

There's a link to some nice looking LEDs and kits/ controllers...you can go from simple to crazy. You should be able to tap into the existing light's power supply if it's close enough. You could even wire in one of the controllers like OG did in that thread so you could control it independently of the existing light.

Get up on top of cabinets and take a picture of the existing light and wire connection. I think you should be able to connect in parallel down into the cabinet fairly easy.

The glue on many of the LED strips does not stick well to some RV surfaces especially with the temp swings they see. I bought a roll of 3M automotive trim tape and attached it to the sticky back of the led strip and it is stuck for good. I added 12" strips to all my closets and pantry.

In our living room I put them on the wall around the edge of the slide out and added a dimmer switch makes a nice accent light hen watching movies. With dimmer you can hane them put out a very low light.

when I click the pic icon it says post your image URL. maybe it's because I'm on my phone. anyway, I have two very obvious wires coming off my existing led. 1 black, 1 red. I would assume this is +/-. what kind of kit do I need to tap directly into this?

If you are planning on adding a single color LED...

Turn off lights. Cut wires. Splice in an additional red/black wire for the new light with small wire nuts. Then run red and black thru cabinet to new light location and wire new light. It's a simple 2 wire connection.

You can buy an inline single color remote that will turn the cabinet light on/off and even dim it.... Get a controller and cut the plug end of the controller to expose the red and black wires and put the controller between the new LED strip and the new wire you spliced in.

OR...

If you want multicolor LEDs that will require a little more wiring at the end of the new wire that was added. This scenario has to have a controller. You would essentially do the same as above but once you bring down the red and black wire thru the cabinet, you will hook up to the controller as described above. The difference will be there are 4 wires between the multi color controller and the LEDs. Most controllers and multi color LEDs have a 4 PIB connection and you should just be able to plug it in. If not, you have to make 4 wire nut connections.

I suggest you look on www.hitlights.com. They have a ton of installation videos to show you how to wire everything if you're not familiar with DC current. You can also call them and tell them what you are trying to do and they can make you a list. They are out of Baton Rouge,LA and I have had a really good experience with them. I've probably placed 5 or more orders thru the years.

Installing this is really very simple. You shouldn't have any problems.

I only do the Forum on my iPhone 6. Could be a compatibility issue.
