355 AMP Pin Weight
In our ongoing quest for the perfect toy hauler, the wife and I took the day to drive up to Danville again. We're really torn between the Fuzions and the XLRs right now. RV Outlet had some recent arrivals of XLRs so I figured we'd cruise up there just to take a look. They also have two Fuzion 403s. Dang! This is hard.
They had a nice 355. It already had three ACs and some other nice features. But one thing really made me wonder if it was correct. Look at the stated pin weight. 3498 lbs.!
Forest River website still says "TBD". This just seems rather surprising for an XLR.

Due to axle placement or floorplan design Bob?

My guess is axle placement in comparison to the whole unit. RV Outlet specs list it as only 39' even though its triple axle. Looking at the photos, the axle does look to be further back than most XLRs but that may be because the camper isn't as long so it has less aft section. Less butt to offset the front weight.

Lots of other choices in the lineup for light pin weights though.... I was thinking I'd get a DRW 350 or 450 next time around. However, with the weight of my pin and the way it tows behind my current SRW, I'm done with that plan. I am still after a 2017 Ford SRW 350 though. Loving the updates....

True. I'm still a fan of the 395 like yours and the 420 with the side patio. Of course, the Forest River website shows the 420 pin weight as "TBD". Come on.
RV Outlet's page has two 420s and they say 2647 lbs. That's the lightest pin weight of any toy hauler I've seen that also had the side patio. For now, I'll trust that. Whichever unit we get, it has to pass my Sherline test though.
Going to look at some Vengeance Touring Editions tomorrow. I like the floorplans but having looked at so many XLRs, they have a tough standard to hit with us.

The web sites will always state "TBD" as they never know how that one coach will be built, once it is they can figure the weight in the office and make a tag up to be installed on that one coach.
Hope this helps out Happy Camping

I'm sure you noticed after we talked last night but all their pin weights are now on the XLR site. Not only did they update their pins but they also corrected the length of some units. Mine is finally correct after they added two feet to the old measurement.

I know the 2014s had a payload below 2000 pounds. That why I purchased a DRW.

The 420 has even lower pin than the 340 according to the "new" numbers. You thinking of an upgrade Clint?

I couldn't justify spending that many gelders, Rodney, but wouldn't it be nice. I have around 2300# payload. I would not hesitate installing air bags on this truck and carrying 2500 - 2600 - 2700 lbs. of pin and cargo.

There is but one single purpose for the RV trailer manufacturer to publish a hitch/pin weight. The regulations trailer manufacturers must abide (FMVSS) says they MUST publish a hitch weight. In your case it’s purpose is explained in FMVSS 571.120 and says in paragraph S10.2: On RV trailers, the sum of the GAWRs of all axles on the vehicle plus the vehicle manufacturer's recommended tongue weight must not be less than the GVWR. If tongue weight is specified as a range, the minimum value must be used.
Once an owner takes control of the trailer the tongue weight is controlled by him/her.
