This is a bit off topic. I would like to remove the 20,s on my tt. I want to install a horizontal 30, and use the space to weld a tray for my generator. Any concerns about this kind of move. Seems to be plenty of space under the trailer. thanks

I use the electric fireplace always. Space heater in bedroom if needed. Fridge always on propane when traveling. Water heater on electric 95% of time. We use the stove top oven, oven occasionally. My 2 tanks will last 5 years at this rate.

We have two twenties and probably use up one tank for about every 10 days of camping. I'm sure we would use more if we ran the heater but seldom need the heater. We always dry camp so we always run the fridge and the water heater on gas. We usually both shower daily, as we carry a lot of water but propane shortage has never been a problem.

Either I camp way more than any of these posters - I live in Washington - so heater is mandatory- there is no way 2 20lb tanks are lasting a week - does anybody use their gas heater ..... Only us North Westerners lol

not often. Love the electric fireplace. Makes lots of heat. Use an additional space heater when needed. Always camp where there is electric, and since it's included with site fee, use it all I can

When we camp in the moutains, it gets darn cold at night; about 40. Under those circumstances, a 30lb tank lasts us about 2 weeks of solid camping.

Those 20 lb tanks are now only 15 lbs. Take a look at the bottle label. Says 15 lbs. Worse yet...they still charge at 20 lb rates.

Normally the horizontal tanks are more permanently mounted. If so, that means you have to take the rig to the propane refilling station to buy it.

Portable tanks, not-so-much. Fill at a bunch of places, and exchange (if that's your more-pricey preference) a LOT more places.

PH,
Plenty cold weather camping in upper midwest (MN/WI). I think we just use electricity as much as possible. The last camp out had the temps down to 29 degrees. Was using the gas furnace and an electric space heater.

Overall, I really only use the gas for the furnace or water heater. And even then we try to be on electric as much as possible. The two 20lb'ers are working just fine for me....

The only concern I would have here is that those lp tanks are designed with that regulator system to see a gaseous state of propane and therefore intended to be in a vertical delivery position. In the applications I can think of (ie. forklifts is what comes to mind) a horizontal delivery position will allow propane in a liquid state to flow but it goes into a spud valve and regulator to get it back to a gaseous state and at the correct W.C. of 11". I'd recommend that you do your homework here

We were out for 37 nights this year - From May 1st to mid-October.

We used electric heaters (with LPG furnace to supplement) for the cooler weather; fridge on LPG for travel, electric on site; cooked with LPG.

Used half of one 20 pounder, didn't touch the other.

We do run our BBQ off a separate 20# - we went through about 1 1/2 tanks on it this season...

The vast differences is LP use intrigue me. I'm sure we have an engineer on the forum who can put a formula to this, right?

Or as my engineer neighbor says: I will solve a problem you didn't know you had in a way you can't understand.

The only issue with the 30#tanks is when the hydrostatic date is due. With the 20#ers you simply exchanged them at a store, but nobody I have seen exchanges the 30s. You will have to buy new or have the hydro test done.

X2. We don't have the fireplace in our HFS27 but with electric space heaters and full hookups the furnace rarely runs. We get our money's worth when plugged in as well.

I keep coming to the same question and then realize it would be a mistake. I can wonder into any gas station in Michigan and exchange a 20# tank. Never a 30# while I don't recommend that you exchange your new rv tank for a used gas station one it's a great backup. I take my spare gas grill tank from the gas station if I'm cold weather camping. I always have a backup. Less front end load as well.

Thanks! We decided against the 30#s, in part because of the comments here. Also, we remembered that since he's a farrier with a forge and two 20# LP tanks in the bed of his truck, we'd be best served to stick with the 20# tanks on the TH

I've been thinking about getting some really long LP lines made and just tapping into a neighbor's tank! 😄
