Awning LED Light

It seems the LED light under the awning throws out some serious light. Has anyone installed a dimmer switch on it? Also, how bad was the light for bugs?

Thank you for your responses....

"Supposedly" the LED lights so not attract the bugs.

Glen,
It seems there are plenty of LED dimmer switches out there. Just not sure if there is a "model" that will fit the rocker switch.

Amazon.com: led dimmer switch

you will not be able to use that type of dimmer. You need a 12V dimmer to replace the switch. I installed a remote control dimmer on my interior lights (all led). You need to try and figure out how much current your lights take, some of the smaller dimmers can only handle a couple amps.

I was just outside playing with mine last night Steve and yes they are indeed bright! I hadn't considered a dimmer. Guess I have another project to research...

Happy Vibe,
Agree with your comments that you need the right switch. Sounds like there are options out there for this modification. Thank you for your suggestions...

Taken,
I thought it was Boats that were money pits. Damm, this TH is going to cost more in "projects" than the original purchase price... (and I'm looking forward to each of the projects...)

I haven't stopped since I got mine home!

Just checked Amazon and lots of options. Now to find out the amp draw of the lighting. Most are rated to 8 amps. LED's are very low draw so should be ok. I love the one with the remote control! Another remote! LOL...

I used the one with the remote control. It works great. One nice thing about it is if you set the light level you can use the switch in the RV to turn them on and off and it will remember the light level. I wired it 12V - switch-dimmer-lights.

Our awning lights were also way too bright. In about 5 minutes I installed this dimmer just inside my basement door. Works perfect. Click image for larger version

Just ordered a 3.6 ft strip in amber to add to my outside kitchen to reduce the bugs the current white light attracts. Will add a wireless dimmer as well. Also added 18" bright white strips in bedroom closets.
