Curiosity got to me so when I went to the storage lot to winterize the unit I looked at the plumbing to make sure mine wasn't done incorrectly, it was correct. One thing I did notice, there is a black water blade valve far under the unit as soon as the pipe comes out of the sealed underbelly and then a straight pipe to the discharge opening where there is another blade valve. Seems like a waste to have two with a few feet of each other and nothing else in between.

Is it necessary to keep the one far under the unit closed? That will be a pain to crawl under there every time I need to dump.

Just bought a 2015 XLR 27HFS (Christmas present) and this is my first post. I stumbled upon this thread because I found I have 2 gray water tanks, but I can't find in the literature anywhere how large each tank is or which tank is Gray 1 and which is Gray 2. Literature does say 57 gals total gray water. Anybody know the capacity of each tank and which is which?

And though it didn't occur to me at the time of pick up, I believe my second gray water valve is also configured incorrectly upstream of the black water valve. You would think FR would have learned. I'm going to drive to the storage lot and confirm it...it'll drive me crazy until I know the truth. Thank you.

Quick question: what makes you think you have two gray tanks? Is it because you have two gray tank indicators on your panel? Because that doesn't necessarily mean you have two tanks, it just means they use the same indicator panel for every unit. I have battery, fresh, black, and gray1, and a gray2 indicator on my panel, but I only have one gray tank. The second gray indicator isn't connected to anything.

I hadn't considered the idea that FR might just be using the same indicator panel for every unit, but two things indicate that may not be the case. First, just like many posts in this string, I have 2 gray water slider valves underneath my unit. One is forward on the unit, the other is aft in the vicinity of the shower. Secondly, when I use the panel to check tank levels, I get a reading in both the Gray 1 and Gray 2 positions. Admittedly, they are "Empty" because it's a brand new unit, but I would think that I would get no lights whatsoever if the Gray 2 was not being used for anything. I might have to wait until I take it out the first time and actually put something in the tanks before I get an answer, but it seems to me there are two tanks.

Any idea which tank is Gray 1 and which is Gray 2 and the size of either?

I get a single "empty" light on my "gray2" indicator, even though it's not hooked to anything. All the LEDs on the panel are connected to read at least empty.

Issues like these just prove my point... The engineers are not end users of the product! You can walk around at an RV show and find stuff that doesn't make sense in every trailer. DW says I drive her nuts with my comments! Some folks go to Disney world and look for hidden Mickeys. I go to RV shows and look for stupid engineering! It's my therapy! The best part is pointing out the obvious to the factory rep! Priceless!

I don't often hate, but when I do hate, I prefer to hate the Pittsburgh Steelers!

signed, a humbled Browns fan......(sigh)......
