Decided to overhaul my TV for s happy Towing year

Since my TV has 298K on her and I have gone through 2 trannies - I burnt one up totally my fault - long story lsome other time ,,,,, and this one has about 200k on it - I decided I don't have enough to do - lol and tore everything apart last night and today and while doing so found a few other worn pieces ......
Remove all tires, drive shafts, transfer case, transmission, rear end hub ( this is not easy w a quadrasteer)
List of to do
Rebuild trams with new updated HD plates, shift kits ect - crazy amount of stuff
Rebuild transfer case - works fine now but I'll need 4 wheel drive to get out of a few places I go - need to make sure it's in good shape
Change all u joints
Rear end looks great put back together new gasket fluid - - fluid = about 140$ for this rear end
Found front A arms bushing have some play go figure - original change out top and bottom

That should keep me busy for a couple weeks 😜
Wish me a fast rebuild need to get it done in two week to have time to break everything in because RV time start in 5Click image for larger version

See now, you're talking about not getting to the trailer mods like WW and I... but you certainly are getting the work done! She'll be ready for another 300k...

Are you planning on swapping out the old brake fluid?

Went thru brakes a couple months ago - and that's been changed every other year - I'm a believer in changing fluids on manufacture recommends and some early depending on how hard I'm running - That's how it's still running - my real plan is beef everything up to handle a supercharger 😮 maybe winter project.

As soon as I got truck torn to pieces I get sent out of town for 3 weeks Grrrrrr back now and hers pics of tranny - got all most all parts will put back together this weekend found friction where defiantly gone - change out 4 sprague to stronger 5 spague new beast sunshell and corvette servo also accumulator plate was ready to fail shows sign of wear when the ball bearing balls rest most likely sticking one soon -- see pics

Will be breaking this Trany in - the hard the way so upgraded to red altos and adding 7 friction on 3/4 all HD frictions - should be able to handle some major HP coming this fall Click image for larger version

PH,
That is some massive knowledge you have there. I would be a great helper in getting you a beer from time to time. But not in helping with what you described above.
Wishing you the best on this project.

I did the transfer case in my Jeep at one point--might as well throw a 4:1 in there while you have it apart!

I've been into VW transaxles a couple of 350 turbos and more recently an A4 in the Mustang but it was simple compared to this one. All the best to you friend! If I lived closer I'd love to help. BTW, heading out for a three day tour around Great Smoky Mountains NP. Short trips each day, with local back road sight-seeing. Thursday or Friday I plan to visit Wheel Through Time (What's in the Barn - TV show) in Maggie Valley... Is my birthday tomorrow.

NorthStar - it doesn't hurt to pull the pan and check how much friction plate material is sitting on magnets or other bad parts - also a good time to add bigger trans pan and new longer filter - also check for stuck bearing or wear - if you see wear around ball bearing holes - it's gonna burn up soon

Had a quick lube place blow up my tranny at 50,000 miles they put in a new one . it has a drain plug and i dump the fluid twice a yr . can only add a gallon at a time but helps keep it clean and now i have 3 tranny coolers on ,while towing it stays between 135 and 165 . 190 when pulling the long passes

Thanks PH!

It looks like my oil temp runs 80 to 90 degrees over ambient while pulling.

If you don't have the special tools for the OD clutch housing, don't take it apart..... it has opposing lip seals and a feeler gauge WILL NOT compress them. If clutches for OD aren't burnt, it'll be okay. The 3/4 clutch mod is the fix....and Transco makes a nice sk. Sprag updates also good, as are electronics.

Everything is apart have press -- only thing I don't have is a washer so taking it to a local shop to have all parts jet cleaned $25 can't beat that -- yes replacing all electrics including harness

Ok, you're gonna have to explain this. Being a manual transmission guy for all my life, but considering going to an auto in my next truck (I may not have a choice,) so I need to hear why having your tranny serviced can make it "blow."

Play Harder, this statement prompts me to ask if you're a member of the forum on Denali Trucks . Some there could probably benefit from your expertise.
