Dumb Newbie Questions

Recently purchased my first travel trailer toy hauler. 2011 Hyperlite XLS 27hfs. I'll have more questions and concerns later. I have two switches I can't figure out what they do. The first is by the stove on the wall next to fridge. Research on this site says it's for the fuel station pump. Second switch is at the front door on the wall between bedroom and kitchen/slide out (kitchen side of wall). It is a dual switch which one turns on the overhead lights at sink/stove, other switch?????

Is there no switches for the bedroom lights or for the lights in the slide out? PO didn't know.

Also does the Onan QG 4000 generator run on electricity, propane, gas or all three? Thanks, Allan

I like youtube for model specific things sometimes. You can find a lot of sales viseos on just about any RV. Many models do not change much from year to year.

Here is one on a 2013 year model which may be real similar to yours.

RK, there has been changes over the years as well as specifics to models. My sink light (in cabinet) is on a double at the fridge... second one is for the gas pump.

I can't get my head around where that other switch is. My slide overhead light switch in on the ceiling of the slide.

Here's a photo.. why not open with paint and show us where your switches are. This is 2014 brochure... so your's might be different.

Onan runs on gasoline only.

I just realized that you question does the generator run on electricity, propane, gas or all three? You meant to say, does the fridge run on all three? Mine runs on propane and 120.. no 12 volt.

All: Thanks for all replies. Trying to figure out the picture thing to upload. Might have it figured out.

Here is the floorplan with red stars for locations (if I did it right).

Single switch is at microwave location: Fuel Pump
Other switch is the star at Bedroom wall. Double switch: Left side overhead lights for Kitchen. Right switch????

I knew about the fridge, wasn't clued in on the generator. No paperwork came with the TT. So in running the generator, I turn on the fuel pump and then fire up the generator per starting instructions.

First off, there is no such thing as a dumb question.

There is not one generator made that runs on electricity, generators create electricity, it most likely has electric start.

I suggest you get the make, model number and serial numbers for every appliance, (awning, water pump, water heater, fridge, a/c, furnace, converter, generator, etc.)

You will have a pretty long list of appliances. Google is your friend. There are a lot of manuals in the library section on the forum, look for the lighter green bar at the top of the forum page. Download the owner / operation manuals and service manuals. Store them on your laptop or tablet or even a usb thumb drive.

For example, I have the original manuals stored in the TT and have the same documents on my laptop. The laptop contains 622MB in 324 files divided in 27 folders for each appliance specific to my TT. Some of the documents did not come with the TT, some I have made up with information I found in these forums. There are a few duplicates that have different file names that I need to clean out. These files come in handy if I need to research something when I'm not at the camper. I made up a spreadsheet with all the numbers and what folder the individual manuals are in.

Hope I've given you some ideas on how to make the information you will need at some time more accessible to you.

Good luck in your new adventures. Have fun and enjoy.

Thanks Scrapper. Good info. Have already started to google. I'm not new to hvac, electrical, generators, etc. Just a green novice how they work with an RV. Such as the fridge working on electric, propane and generator. Never saw one with the fuel station and the PO couldn't remember how it worked. RV was only used three times and was brand new with the PO.

Thanks Bnrc73. Looks like a bulb purchase, along with other things.

our unit is a 2014 , from what i have seen nothing is ever the same in these units from year to year, and quite possible that they are not the same in the same year models

Could those 2 switches be the door light and the awning light?

we have 3 along that same wall, interior lights/door light / the led awning light

It is the exterior door light switch. Had a bad bulb, probably replace it with LED. Thanks again for all replies!
