Electrical Fail

I was gone all day and came back to camper with no power. Checked all breakers including pedestal. Only one that was tripped was the AC. Checked power at pedestal and had power. Twist lock plug was hard to unplug from side of camper like it melted together. First thought was low voltage which will cause a more amp draw, but voltage was good. I pulled access panel inside to get to back of plug to remove. I cut romex off and pulled plug out and realized that the factory didn't tighten down the terminal screw on the common side. So it caused it to get hot and melt the plastic. These are things the factory should double check and owners to check periodically. It was so loose the wire didn't have any signs of being crimped down. This happened my second time out, so theres no way it loosened up in the short travels.

First time out with our Wind Jammer I was under the bathroom sink trying to stop the water pump from banging and noticed the 110 wiring clamp wasnt tightened on the plug socket. Grabbed the wiring and it came out of the socket. After fixing that I checked all of the 110 plug ins and circuit breakers and found several that were loose or not installed properly.
Thos was on our first trip. So yes it is a good idea to check all of them.

One of the maintenance items I did was look at power connection and was glad I did pull the connector. I cut off and terminated the trailer wire correctly. Tightened all connections in the panel, many where loose.

Is that something FR does or do they source it?

FR connects the AC inlet to the rats nest of wires in the unit prewire. They just do it quick with little regard to strip length or proper tightness of connections.

This is an incorrect statement. We have weekly audits from our corporate inspectors and monthly audits from our vendors. We do try our hardest and take pride in what we do at our shop. The unfortunate thing about being a human is that we make mistakes. I am sorry for the issue that you have there and am thankful that nothing else more serious happened. Contact your selling dealer and we will take care of this.

For sure. Thank you Bullet Bob for responding and explaining the process.
Both forest river trailer I have owned had improper terminations AC input connections. I fixed both myself and did find what I stated. Looking at the OP connection it certainly looks like a loose or improperly terminated wire, there was heating and the plastic melted. I took delivery of a 2703 and the whole entrainment system disconnected when I tried to raise the TV. This is 2 hours after bringing it home. I traced all wiring out, trapped and fixed the rats nest. I do stand by my statement about care and dress of cables.

Just adding my experience on the DC side, I had to re-crimp all the heavy gauge wire connectors starting at the battery which were all improperly done (lose). It was almost like someone at FR used their teeth to install the connectors!

I had the same experience with my previous RV from Keystone so I guess it is a common problem.

Daff44 I put out a warning on that exact thing - FR is defiantly not using the correct crimping tool on
