Enough truck?
I have a 2016 silverado z71 1500 with towing package. do I have enough truck to tow this? according to the numbers I can tow this but I dont want to have a miserable trip. I plan on putting a rzr 900 in the back which runs about 1200 pounds I think. Thanks guys. I know a 2500 would be better but I cant fit one in my garage.

I probably should have mentioned I am looking at a 29hfs XLR with a rzr in the back.

It will tow it but your gonna need some mods - E ply tires - air bags, if 4l60 trany gonna need to beef it up to 5 sprague planets instead of 4 and get a real transmission cooler instead of that 4incb POS trans cooler that GM put on their tow packages lol - steep grade you'll be in the slow lane with the slow semi trucks w flashers on -- I have theses mods and quadrasteer- plus some engine mods - - a 1ton would be nice but not in my cards yet either - Eply tires are a must or u won't get over 60 before the sway monster kicks in.

I'm gonna go ahead and tell you no.
It will pull it straight on a nice day, after that, good luck. Stopping, winds, sway, and everything will be tough...

I am close to the same. I have a 29hfs and pull with f150 ecoboost. It pulls it go but with aluminum body and such you are giving up some weight.
My truck rating and gcwr are still in parameters. I only travel within an hr or so.
Fully loses with my golf cart or atv I am at about 8750-9000 depending on water. I'm rated for 11,700 on
truck.

What engine ? if you have the 6.2 ok if the smaller you will not like it so much . i have the 2500 6.0 and do fine would not use anything smaller to tow this unit with . i do not believe the 29 is truly 1/2 towable . you have 1100 to 1250 tw.

I've pulled mine just fine all over with Ram 1500 crew cab with airbags. Pulled twice from Indy to Bristol, TN through the mountains. I'm sure 2500 would be better but not gonna worry about it right now. Maybe it's a Chevy problem! LOL

Hawk: I STRONGLY suggest you read your Owners Manual (pg 333 through 337) and check the sticker in your drivers side door frame before you do ANYTHING ELSE.
All you've told us is you've got a z71 1500 with towing package. However, the Owners Manual lists 55 permutations of the 1500 (engine, cab, bed, rear end, tow package, etc.) with towing capacities of 4,600 lbs to 12,000 lbs. They don't list payload, but that should be on the sticker on your door frame. Actually, I found the 2016 Silverado 1500 brochure. It says 1760 lb to 2,200 lbs depending on the permutation.
As listed on the Hyperlite website, UVW for your 29hfs XLR is listed as 7282 lbs and CCC is 2642, so you could be up to 9924 lbs. Hitch wt is listed as 1124, but we know that will go up. Since payload is anything you put in the truck except the driver, you could be pushing it.
But we really don't know, and no one here can really comment (but they WILL), since none of us really know WHICH Silverado you have. Any of us who do are just as bad as the RV salesman who says, "Oh, a 1/2 ton can pull this trailer" without knowing anything about YOUR 1/2 ton.

To a question like this where we are to evaluate a hypothetical truck and a hypothetical trailer, the answer is I wouldn't recommend it.
I can only share my experiences, which includes a fully "towing" optioned 1500 Chevy (2010) with a much lighter TH (Grey Wolf 21RR) and now with a Ram 2500 CTD pulling a maxed out 29HFS. I wasn't happy with the performance of the 1500 towing the lighter/smaller/shorter 21RR so I sure as heck wouldn't recommend it with the Hyperlite. And you propose a much heavier toy than I haul. I will not say all 1500/150 can't pull it with a good hitch and on flat(ish) ground or you have to have a diesel. But where I've been and done, also predicting you will more than likely will eventually have both TV and TH maxed out, I would have no less than a 2500/250 gasser but a diesel is even better. There has been times when I wish for a 3500/350. Just my opinions.

What you may consider fine others may find unacceptable . adding air bags does not increase load . sure it levels you out but with a 2500/250 no real need for them .

you will be 9500 lbs when loaded. That's a lot of weight for a 1/2 ton on a bumper pull. Hitch weight will be a lot. Lots more info needed on your truck to make a good call.

I'm pulling a 27hfs with a diesel excursion. A 29hfs is not for your truck...

Enough truck?
I love these 1/2 ton debates 😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛😛 did I mention I now have 329814 miles on my 2002 chev 1/2 ton pulling XLR HyperLight 29 hfs with a Can-Am Spyder in back fully loaded fuel cell and water tanks - and I camp almost every other weekend for over a year now - zero sway been up to 80 plus - I'm i slow going up steep grade yes - I mean mountain pass type of hills - could I keep 65 going up steep grade yes but don't like to the revs being that high so slow it down to 55 at a nice 3300 rpm
I remember when I first put a 10,5 lance camper on the truck with stock tires - thought we where gonna die driving it home --huge sway - barely do 40 around a corner - this was with air bags installed -- switch to Michelin E ply tires and all was good again - sway gone - no more truck roll -- ----
The weak link in my truck has been the transmission but everything else has not been rebuilt and currently 329814 miles and climbing - headed to Santa Cruz on the 1st from Seattle
Unfortunately You won't know what you truck can handle till you tow it - - I seen plenty of 3/4 ton trucks that have the same issue as 1/2 tons and rated less than some of the new 1/2 tons
All 1/2 tons are not created equal!
WDH Setup is critical
Bring on the 1ton critics lol

I believe you're just as bad as everyone else. You don't tell us what your 1/2 ton is rated for, even though you did say "All 1/2 tons are not created equal." How's the OP to determine how his might stack up if you don't tell him the specs on yours?
