Not a plumbing expert here. What type of tubing is used in our XLRs? I understand it is PEX, but when I went to the hardware store I see there are different types of PEX. Any advice would be appreciated.

Bowtie guy - You didn't have to lose 1/3 tank of water for the full light to go off. Just enough to go below the full sensor. If a half gallon went in after the full light came on then you would have to lose only a little over a half gallon for it to go out.

What are you trying to do, D? I am not sure all of our units have the same brand, probably not. But the difference seems to be temperature and pressure ratings. I see red for hot and blue for cold, the color is an indicator to aid the installation. There is also translucent that is rated as well.

As far as I know, all tubing has printing all along the length that tells you what it is and what you would need to buy. The PEX I worked with was translucent rated for 280 degrees and 80 psi (from memory), which came in 10' lengths; and I used brass (bronze?) fittings and the clinch type clamp. The iron ring takes a pricey tool, the clinch type tool about a $30. They make push on type of fittings as well. Shark bite, I think. Many of this push on fittings are pricey, too.

Let me know, and I can go out and read what the marking on my pex says... if you need me to.

18 gallons would be a 1/3rd of a tank.

maybe you need to run a test. Fill the tank. Drive a couple hours then pump the water out of tank. See if you get tha advertised number of gallons. If not maybe the dealer can explain the concept of false advertising.

It finally finished and i checked to see the gauge was now only showing 1/3 a tank of fresh water.

Wondering if anyone else has had this happen, how do you usually fill the tank?

Thanks
Hope your having a good Indenpendence day B,

I have only filled mine up twice and fill it not just to "full" but until water overflows... of course I don't get the siphon thing going on.

I was reading this again and had a thought. You are filling the tank all the way and the "full" light comes on... and you stop filling as soon as it does. If you ran outside and stopped the flow and you had added 4 gallons more; you would only have to lose those 4 gallons to drop back to an indicated 2/3rds... make sense? Now I don't claim to know why you lose any water. Something could be up with the way the fill and overflow hoses are attached. Loose hose? What if the fill and overflow hoses to the FW tank were reversed? What would that do?

I'll confirm mine too siphons water out after full fill - had to bend tube 180 to get to stop - even blew air into hose to try to stop siphon - - got too camping site 5hours away - unlinked and water still siphon out - didn't stop till water level dropped below full

I'm doing more and more research on this issue. I'm avoiding bringing it in until i'm sure as to what might be taking place. Don't want to lose my trailer for an extended period of time and well after that belly cover is dropped it will prob never be the same.

So went camping on the weekend, had someone follow me for a bit on the highway. I filled the tank until full and just a slight drip was present from the over flow. Apparently i'm dropping water like it's going out of style. Seems like it's sloshing around and coming out of the overflow. While stopped at a light on a hill she was leaking too.

It seems as though the tank should be just vented up above the tank and not like it is. I've hauled tanker before and when we were loaded the tank is sealed, once pumping it out or after it's empty we leave them vented. I'm thinking I might try that on my vent hose. Of course forgetting to open the valve will cause big headaches but it can be added to my setup routine.

Still not sure why one day it siphoned my tank as the other day it didn't drain until I was driving. Very weird.

I had this problem also. What I end up doing is adding a valve and painting the valve lever green on one side for open and red on the other for close so you can do a quick glance at see which side the valve lever is turned.
Red is when I am traveling so I don't loose water and it's in the close position, and green for open, filling, venting.

Sorry for raising the dead about this issue, but I discovered an easy fix when my water began siphoning out. I came here to see if anyone else (1) had the issue or (2) tried what I did. It doesn’t look like it, so I’ll share it.

I sat and thought about it as I watched the water flowing out. I started to inch my way under there with the idea of wrapping my lips around it and blowing into the line, but I didn’t feel like getting wet or putting my lips on what looked like a filthy line.

I thought about it some more then tried this: I cupped my hand and gently slapped the opening opposite the water flow. The shock of pressure stopped the flow!

I haven’t repeated the experiment but will soon.
