Garage wall construction? Want to hang a cabinet.

Curious if anyone knows how the garage walls are constructed? I want to add a small cabinet in the garage area of our new 420Amp. I am guessing they have aluminum wall studs, but am unsure of the spacing and width of the studs. If anyone has any knowledge of this, please advise!

If you're talking about interior garage wall then typically they are wood stud framed but the spacing isn't consistent from one unit to the next. I would recommend using a stud finder.
If you are talking about an exterior or side wall it is more difficult to locate the aluminum framing. I've noticed in the mornings (after running ac all night) the studs are visible from the outside. If you look closely you'll see condensation forms on the outside everywhere but the aluminum framing. In the right conditions it'll be visually obvious as to there location.

Good luck!

Very interested in this as well; especially bolts/screws to use and things to avoid such as wiring and plumbing that might be in the walls.

Some rental centers now rent infrared cameras to check for air leaks in your house. If you turn the A/C way up if it's hot out, or turn the heat way up if it's cold out, you can "see" inside the wall with an infrared camera as the room will change before the interior of the wall.

I have a high quality stud finder that has a deep mode. It can see the metal studs. Also I always use the tap and listen method to double check.

Look at the outside wall on a dewy morning, you'll see every stud and cross brace. Then you can measure and transfer to the interior. Done this many times.

Thanks for all the replies.
Just to confirm, I want to hang inside the garage on an exterior wall.

How do you like your 420 AMP?

Is it the Thunderbolt 420 AMP? I've been looking at that one and am planning to trade our current camper to get one.

Is it everything you hoped it would be?

Well we just got it a couple weeks ago, so i can't really say. I love the deck, as I'm a morning coffee guy. Nice to sit out there and look at the lake!

Yeah, the deck is what drew me to it and what sold my wife on it. She loves the way it opens up the kitchen/living room area with expanded space to move around. (She hates tight spaces...)

We haven't purchased one, but I haven't seen anything I like better than the Thunderbolt XLR 420 AMP.

Hopefully, I'll get to join your "Owner's Club" one day!
