Garmin Backup Camera on 417AMP

Has anyone had an issue with the backup camera on the Garmin LM760's that comes with the XLR's connecting and dropping out constantly going down the road? It is annoying cause everytime it reconnects it turns on the rear view camera and goes away from the navigation screen.

I think it is an issue that they put the receiver too far back in the storage compartment and I have relocated it 6 ft forward to the front of the compartment, but I have not been able to test it yet and wanted to see if anyone else has had the issue and resolved it by moving the receiver forward.

I will probably use it this weekend for a test, but thought I would check here.

Truck is a crew cab short bed (6.5 ft) so there certainly is a possibility of a greater distance to the receiver from the screen.

Thanks,

Dave

BacK Up Camera

I don't have one but I have been thinking about one. My question when you are driving down the road can you attivate it so you can see what is behind you while driving down the road? Can it be used as a dual purpose divice? back up & rear view purpose?

thanks tim coltrain

The Garmin camera that came with the trailer always has power supplied to it so you can switch on the display at any time. I often have done it to see if the person I am traveling with is still behind me or I have lost them although you would think it would be hard to lose a trailer of this size .

An aftermarket camera could be configured however you want (i.e. find a constant 12v source or wire it into the reverse light circuit - the latter is probably a little harder to find on a trailer that is already built out).

My Garmin camera has worked perfectly since day one. The antenna is mounted under the front storage compartment of my 375amp. It hasnt failed so far!

I added the Garmin backup camera on my '09 XLR and got the power from the running lights. That way all I have to do is put on the lights to see behind me. If you hook it to the reverse light you will not be able to see going down the road. You would have to put it in reverse.

I use that setup and have had no issues. The face of the transmitter needs to face your GPS as squarely as possible. I think it's transmitter antenna pattern design works best that way.

Turns out my problem was the receiver was too far away. Drive for 2 hours today and was flawless.

Glad you got it worked out, was going to ask about receiver distance!
