Gas Cap

I have an XLR Viper and I need a new gas cap for the onboard fuel tank. Having trouble matching the correct cap. Does anyone know what cap is the correct one?

Visit a NAPA Dealer with the old cap they should have one to match. If they don't have one in stock they can usually get anything like this in a couple of days.

I have been to several parts stores and so far no one can match this Stant Gas Cap. My dealer has made contact with Forest River, who will not release a part number but will be happy to sell me a cap for only $54.00. Forest River has lost me as a customer. Hope everyone thinks twice about dealing with this company

when there were no computers a friend had a parts store with a very large inventory in a bldg that was about a small city block with parking lot. Most of the parts you could get right then but if had to order they could open a book and get the number within 5 min. .
Now they create parts that are only available through them. Helping your customer get the part pdq is more important than making a buck keep the customer happy and they will come back make them unhappy and they will move on to another business.

Sounds as if BulletBob and Forest River have come through once again. Great job!

Me thinks they would of helped without the threat of never buying a FR product again. Food for thought...

$54!

Quick search for Stant caps and I find them on Amazon for less than $10 and less than $15 for locking caps. Not sure of the part number OP needed but then again FR/dealer was not providing it. Can always do a Google search and then go to Images and dial in the search that way as well.

All part numbers are available, online, for all dealers who work with FR. If not they call the parts department and ASK for it. If an individual owner calls in, the parts department should advise you to buy from your local dealer. It's normally cheaper that way.

Bob,

Thanks for clarifying. Not sure what exact steps OP took.

Well, I've always had great service from FR and Couch's. Maybe because I'm boyishly handsome?

Cheaper to buy from the dealer, even with their markup? If I buy a part right from FR (say from Carmen over the phone,) aren't we eliminating the middleman? 😉

Besides, it might be worth it to me to pay a little more for it if (a) it's delivered to my door and (b) I don't have to bother explaining to some dealer parts guy what I want/need when a factory person is gonna understand it a whole lot better.

We could change the thread to a discussion on 50 Shades of Gray (Gelcoat). 😂
