gen noise

Just bought a 2017 Nitro 29 bumper pull. Tried the Onon 4000 super quit, it is very very noisy (vibration). Any think to look for?

Hi rshop55
I have an XLR with the Onan 4000 installed up front
I just checked it with a web app from Makita and it says 74db 10ft in front of generator compartment with the compartment door closed, 69-70db in front bedroom, less than 70db under the awning area.
No vibrations other than what I would expect from a single cyl engine at speed.
I installed myself so I know it is tight for space in the compartment.
Maybe your genie is touching a side wall, fiberglass shroud loose OR some installers only fire a screw or two through the floor pan of genset to hold it in place. If this is the case it could be bouncing. Tailpipe could be touching something solid where it comes down through the frame.
I don't know how accurate the web app is as I have nothing to calibrate against, but I suspect it is pretty close.

What is your expectation of super quiet? 70db noise level is equivalent to Vacuum cleaner, distance 1 m

^x2. And dBs go up exponentially from one dB to the next like 70 to 71. I heard a 57 dB gen an it was much quieter than a 58 dB

I went back and double checked my test, 10ft from genie, compartment closed, no load, only 70db not 74db.
The Onan quiet series 4000watt is advertised as 68db(A) @ 10ft @ 1/2 load.
So close enough for me, even when genie is off and no close sound source the ambient noise a mile from the highway in the country is still 64-66db.
We'll have to see if OP comes back with any numbers to quantify very, very noisy
Interesting though the generator literature states National Park Service sound level requirements of 60db(A) @ 50ft...wind makes more noise than that, don't know how many portable genies could come meet that standard.
