Have a 2013 27 ft XLR and generator compartment totally rusted. Is anyone else having this problem. What has been done to this to prevent water entering thru the louvered door. Is this a common problem or is something wrong with ours. Thanks.
I have a 2011 with same issue. No major rust but always wet after it rains. The seals look fine and the door closes correctly.
I am now considering that it is the half screen section on the outside that water leaks into an fills the inside door which leaks into main compartment.
My fix, not tried yet is to clean and spray clear rubber sealant on both sides and hope it works. The only other option is to buy solid door like on storage side.
Why they went with split screen on Gen door was bad move.
No, it's not a vent screen. ( it may be if you have a Gen don't know ) on mine I have no Gen and the door has a false front.
Top half screen and bottom half vinyl panel. Door is solid on inside.
My guess in rain water leaks thru top fake screen into inner door panel and leaks out bottom.
I keep cover on all winter so not to much damage. But went camping last week and spent a part of setup cleaning mold of all my water hoses and electric cable and other stored items. Going to clean and spray rubber sealant.
Unless someone has better idea?
I have a 29 HFS. Same problem. I have to sand and paint the compartment. The rain comes off corner rain gutter and if unit is leaning at all it splashed on vent screen on door. Soaks the whole compartment. What makes it worse is there is no drain. I am going to cut plastic and silicone it from behind to keep storage dry.
I use separate water tight containers, one for electric, fresh water and sewer. Not sure if there will be a mold problem without letting everything air dry before closing lids.
I keep my sewer hose and paraphernalia in the generator compartment in a plastic box, which I use to fill and disinfect after a trip... or every now and then. Water hose in box in the garage. My generator has a little rust, but the plastic stuff is still over the door vent and the bottom of the box, so it isn't bad.

Update!
After wrapping door with plastic and still no luck with leaks. I simply caulked the outer molding trim where it meets the body of the camper. I only did the top half and about three inches down on the corners. Kind of a rush job out of despair but it worked!!
The compartment has been dry the last couple rainy days. Intend to clean out compartment ( final time ) and caulk properly.
I used white roof lap caulking. I hope this helps others. Sure was a pain cleaning and leaving the door open almost every time it rained.
I too have a leak in the generator cabinet in my XLR 19hfs.
Will you post pictures of your caulking job that fixed the problem?
I would like to do that to mine. Just not sure where to caulk.

It's kind of a half a$$ed job, still trying to get a weekend or two in. After being disgusted with cleaning and drying I just cleaned around the trim and used what I had available. When I end the season I will wash whole camper and do much better job then throw cover on. Here are a few pic's. Hope it works for you.
