Generator Help For Storm

If power goes out at the camp site. Can I start generator and run it? or do I have to disconnect from the original power source or breaker box. Or if power goes out just start generator and roll on. I have the XLR Thunderbolt 2016 Toy Hauler with the Onan Generator. Power may go out and I'm trying to get ready if it does.

I've started mine while hooked to shore power many times. If you listen closely you'll here the automatic transfer switch give a little thump when switching over.

All factory installed generators have an ats installed. If you don't unplug and start the generator, you are trusting the ats is working. I trust it. That's what it is designed to do.

Not all have a ATS. There are some FR3's reported on this forum who have to plug their shore power cable into a outlet that is connected to the generator.

Ah. Gotcha. I shouldn't have made that claim.

Surly you jest! There are not 2 RVs alike! Youroo!! If there are still some "Old School" Gen Installs they must be Un-plugged from supply and plugged into the Gen! If this is the case they are "Living in the Past"!

Generator

Not all of us have an ATS. I must plug into the generator receptacle to use generator power.
