Update - For the military guy and gals. If you happen to need lodging and you are without you rig I highly recommend the Pine Tree Inn there on Ellsworth AFB. They didn't quite know what to make of a Sailor, let alone a half crazy Snipe, but we got along well. Great staff, great facility all around.

Fair winds and following seas.

Or for us RV types - May your travels have tailwinds and a downhill slope.

One thing I want to do is check the hubs/tires for temp at each gas stop. I did not get a TPMS, so I have to go old school on the monitoring aspect...

I've been camped in west yellowstone since mid may . working/staying at the campfire lodge and resort between hebgen lake and quake lake on the Madison river . fishing has been great . leaving for sturgis sunday or monday but just riding the bike from here and leave the th . only have 4 days but gotta get the 75th shirt

It will be very busy but have to be there for the 75th. Hope to get the less busy rides mid-week this week. Then just enjoy madness over next weekend and into next week.

yep this will bee the biggest yr since 04 which saw over 500,000 bikes . have done all the rides their a dozen or more times so the ride their and back will be enough . just hang with some friends, walk sturgis visit the vendors have a few drinks at one eyed jacks pick up my shirts and head back to west yellowstone for some more fishing

Got back late last night but the trip was a good one. The 29hfs worked out perfectly. I was very happy I have been reading this forum these past few months because I was WELL prepared for everything (i.e. extra battery, neutral ground for the generator, progressive surge protector (did have low voltage errors every morning on the shared 110 power source...)). . The one thing I will say is that my old truck was pushed pretty hard with all the weight and some of the hills close to Sturgis. Was averaging around 7.3 mpg for the trip but the truck did it's job with no break downs. (I really could tell the difference when I dropped off the bro&sis-in-law with all their gear/4-wheeler and bike. It really had some power then...).

Thanks Steve for the pics I just pulled down to Flagler beach and back.. average mpg (6.7 Cummins) 11.4 each way. Only hill was an overpass

1 ton diesel will be the next truck for sure. Have to wait 2-3 years but it will be coming. Some day I will move up to a 5'er and need all the weight and power.

We had a Voltage 5'er in our group that was pulled by a new Dodge Dually. He got 10mpg coming from Oregon. So bigger hills than I had to take.

In the end, I can't be happier with my 29hfs. Just took it to the dealer tonight for the 90 day check up. Only a few minor things that I thought I would have them take care of instead of me fixing. Can't wait for next weekends trip up north to a friends cabin and bring his bike with us for some riding around the lakes (he never has been able to do that...

)

Cool Steve, I can't wait to get to the mountains again. When I bought the 2500 I could have gone to a dually for few more dollars more but couldn't see driving something that wide and long every day in the city. The 2500 is very capable with the 4:10 gears and better now with the new BF Goodrich 285s all around. Plus the more I pull the 29, the more comfortable I get pulling a 35 foot trailer. The only nail biter is getting into restaurants and gas stations. And getting better at that. The rear camera has helped. Safe travels my friends! WW

I agree, the more you travel with the TH the more you get comfortable with towing it in tight spaces (i.e. gas stations...).

Did you happen to spot any nice houses for sale while you were in Flagler? Gotta be on the lookout for my retirement home, dude. Preferably something with enough room to park the XLR...

Jesse James Dupre and or Jackyl have been performing at Sturgis since the 90's. We went in '96, '97, '98 & '99 (rode every time) and he/they were there every year. They gave 100% every year we saw them, if you want kick ^$$ rock and roll, go see Jesse James Dupre and or Jackyl! I would love to go back to Sturgis again. Every year we went we would put 4-6K miles on our bikes in a week. Seen many small towns in Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming. I can remember in '96 & '97 Aladdin Wyoming was a ghost town, we would stop at the general store go in the bar and drink a beer or two. Now I hear they have live music and vendors and it is always packed.

did you see the XLR's FR had set up seems they brought their line up of toy haulers for the rally . they were asking 38,000 for the 29hsf . they did have a29 with 2 slide outs that was nice with the island counter . really enjoyed the rally this yr . left the TH in west yellowstone and rode the bike from here and staid with friends in boulder park outside sturgis . 511 mileride one wayjust got back last night avoided all the rain on our rides

Never stopped in but drove by the XLR setup just about everyday. The wife really liked the kitchen slide out. It will be quite a few years before we move up to a 5'er.

As we left on Tuesday morning, I was feeling bad for the people that were still around. The weather forecast was calling for rain each day. Happy to hear you missed the rain on your rides...

The kitchen slide was on a 29hsf not a 5'er . i just got home last night . it rained monday night . tuesday only west of sturgis never rained in town and wed was also great again late night showers .

I thought the one with the kitchen slide was the 30HDS. Changing subjects, a TH showed at Gamble Rogers about 28' (no slides ),but had floor very low to the ground like a horse trailer... overall height was also very low. Seems like it had a goose-neck. Seems like there is a W&P something like this. I want FR to build me one! A feather-lite converted well would be the ticket. Would need a slide. A 30' empty featherlite runs around $20K or more.
