You should never reuse a lubrication contaminated shoe. Nothing you can do will guarantee it is clean and safe to use. In many states (Utah is one) it is actually illegal to clean and reinstall a lubrication contaminated shoe.
I'm not saying you will have a problem,but I'm saying that my family, and the people I share the road with are worth the extra money to make sure things are right.

I don't think the shoes had more than surface contamination. The trailer stopped fine before. Only reason I took them apart is I read the known seal problem and I wanted to check the brakes. I'm glad I did the work. Everyone in front of me will be safe.
Where did you get a price for 28.00 bucks for rear brake seal, I forgot either at Napa or on ebay a doubled lip seal was like between 2 and 4 bucks? Maybe we are not talking about the same thing. Confused as normal that's why OC does my work... I'm also lucky.. I live pretty close to him 147 miles only. I carry 4 sets of bearing and seals from Al-Ko direct for 34.00 bucks that I carry with me...they are single lip seals through...

Fella at NAPA heard my story and sold me oil seals, not grease seals. They're quite a bit more than grease seals and they're a bit thicker. When I return from my 5000 mile loop I'll pull one off.
