There are many campers with shower/sink going to black tank, it is not that unusual, do a search here on the forums. A few years back there was a whole slew of Rockwood/Flagstaf units with this "issue".

Yes, I can confirm that, 2015 XLR 30HFS5, the shower does go into the black tank. I think its a good thing. Number one, the black is a bigger tank--54 gal. Number two (no pun intended!) the more water you have in your black tank, the better it is for dumping--water is your friend when you're trying to get all the solids out of the black tank, so soapy, shampoo-ey shower water is welcome, to me. If you're filling up 54 gallons of black, don't check and/or empty before you take a shower, and poo starts backing up into your shower--I'd say that's totally on you. I would NOT have the shower re-plumed into the gray tank--the gray is currently your bathroom and kitchen sinks, and its only 32 gal. DW fills that up washing dinner dishes and wetting her hair, washing her face, and brushing her teeth the next morning. If you plumb the shower into that, your're going to be having to dump it 2X/day. I'd say leave it alone, but that's just me...

I'm living in mine full time while I work. Probably will never take it to an actual campground. Everyone just leaves there greys open and we get our blacks sucked out once every 2-3 weeks depending how far from civilization we are. That's why I had mine re-plumbed. Appreciate everyone's input though. Glad there are active forums to help out.

Whoa, wait: You're saying that "everyone" (and by "everyone," I assume you mean other people in the work camp that you're staying in) just leaves their gray valves open to drain onto the ground as a regular practice? That must smell great. Please let us all know what area of what state this is in, so we can all avoid drinking any well water as we pass through.
You're still going to have the "tank filling up too quickly" problem if you plumb it into the gray, but if gray is just discharged to the surface, I guess that solves your problem!

My shower drains into a (one of two) the same as the bathroom sink. I was poking around and FR information is that all models have the same capacities. I am under the impression that the 27 has one grey tank... is it 57 gallons? I know for sure the 29 has two grey tanks... 57?
Off the FR website... 24, 27 and 29 have the same holding capacities: Fresh Water Capacity54 gal. (204 L) Gray Water Capacity57 gal. (216 L) Black Water Capacity32 gal. (121 L)

It is not a bad idea to have the grey drain into the black. think it all that wonderful soap and water would do a great job in keeping your black tank clean. I think having the ability to flush out the black tank with grey water would be a nice feature.
Pop up owners like us have separate grey and separate blacks. Two totally separate drains. It is not even possible to use the soapy water to clean out the black tank.

I kinda felt like that shower water is just filling my black tank way faster and also diluting specific products that I put in my black tank. And it certainly doesn't clean the tank. It's still going to be black water, and always be tied into your shower.

I'm no scientist, but I think a bio / enzyme product that keeps the black tank clean would not like soapy water. I have heard it is bad to dump dish washing water (grey) into a home septic system... seems like it would be nearly the same thing with shower water. But, I also think our part-timing and few days spent in the camper might not really matter. Probably the more we use them, the better natural solutions would work better. I know of several campers who don't put any chemical of any kind in their black tanks and have no smell. I am going to search this site for those who have experienced composting toilets. Seems like the way to go. I have seen one in a house... no smell (if there is, it smells like dirt), no water necessary; with no water waste how great would that be for dry camping?; clean out every 6 months (or more); the waste is compost for a garden. The down side is daily or near daily dumping of liquids and the occasional clean out / regeneration. I would think that paper cannot be put into it. They use peat moss to get started... and a tiny 12Vdc fan runs all the time for venting.

I have a home septic tank/drain field setup. All waters run into the same place--toilet, showers, sinks, laundry. No issues at all, Rid-X goes in there once a month or so to keep the enzyme level. But that's a SEPTIC tank. The tanks on our RVs are just HOLDING tanks. Not necessary to "worry" about water diluting the chemicals, they're not in there all that long and are just there to keep the odors down.

True. No doubt the shower would fill the tank much quicker. I wonder if this is why FR put such a large black tank if your trailer. Usually we see the grey tanks equal or larger than the black.

Yes I do agree with the fact extra water is good for draining. Just found it odd as my old one wasn't set up like that. I used to add extra water in the black tank and never had an issue.
I'll make do but for instance a buddy at a camp ground has a drain available for grey water but not for black. Poor flow with solids.
