Heat in XLR 27 HFS

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but it seems like the heater in the 2013 27hfs is not working properly, we live in Iowa and it is cold here, we just brought the camper home Dec,30 . I had the heater on for about 3hrs and could not get it to warm up. There is heat blowing out of the vents, but seems very low volume, and not very hot. The vent outside seems warmer. Any answers???? Thanks Jon

My exhaust heat is very warm but hot air blowing from interior vents also. I have camped this fall down to about 15 degrees and was able to maintain comfortable temps but it was running most of the time at the coldest temperatures. I would suggest getting a wall thermometer and record exact readings to see. Might need some warranty work.

Was the air volume good comming from the lower vents? Mine is very low volume, i don't think it would blow out a match.

When we picked up our trailer, they failed to remove the knock out panel so the floor vents were mostly blocked. You might want to check that. Are you getting warm air out of the front where the furnace is located?

Thought I would post a Reply just to give you some information. Last weekend we camped for two nights in low to mid 20 degree temps. The heater in our 2012 XLR 27HFS ran pretty much all night with thermostat set to 60. Our tt does not have the enclosed under belly, but does have the extra roof insulation and the dual pane windows.

The amount of air comining out of the vents is not very fast and the outside vent is most definitely hotter.

We were comfortable but when it is this cold I think a small space heater would help.

You have to remember that your trailer walls are no where near that of a house. The furnace will have a hard time keeping the unit warm in colder weather. That is the reason most campers use an electric heater to help.

caper , you are right . I also noticed cold air around the inside of the slide, not alot but enough to feel it. I'm thinking about some kind of "snake" to wrap around the inside of the slide. (like a door snake). The best solution is to use a small space heater or stay home until the weather warms. But when the fish are bitting and I get to camp, a little cold is nothing that would keep me home.

Something doesn't seem right if your heat is on but you need space heaters. I've had three different TT's/5ers and the heat on each of them would run you out of the trailer, even in the low 20s outside. I believe I'd do some more looking.

Next time I get the chance I will use a thermometer and see what the readings are at the vents. I know that if the doors to the bathroom and garage are closed the heater works great in the kitchen/dinning room area. The bathroom is also warm, but the garage is much colder when the doors are closed. The garage only has one heater vent, so by leaving the bathroom doors open the garage area stays warmer.

I'm not sure of what the temp. should be at the vents, I assume that with the heater running the output temp. after 10 minutes or so should be at a specified level. Just not sure of where to find those specifications without calling Forest River.

I too have owned 2 other TT and the heat was excellent even in temps of low 20s. I hope this is not the case, I just ordered a 27hfs?
