Help with mounting TV's

Do you guys know if mounts like that Road Ready from Amazon will work with just the backer board? I need to mount one in my 24 on the cupboard with the backer board but every mount I find seems to want a stud. The TV is 29 inches but it is feather light, which is why i bought it. Lighter than most 22 inch tvs i was looking at.

Sponge I didn't check out which tv mount you want to use but the one I had in the 24HFS mounted above the stereo. I took down the under cabinet stereo and cut a bigger hole in cabinet to get my hand up through and bolted it instead of relying on regular screws.

Very interesting! I wish they just gave you a pass through where the cable connections are so I could do the same. I may have to try the same route as you did so I appreciate the idea. I have no idea how much weight those backer boards support.

I'm not sure how much it would support I think our tv is a 22". It look like it may have been a 3/4" thick backing. I was going to cut out a 4" or 5" wide piece and also put it up behind the backer just for piece of mind but I didn't. I still removed the tv when traveling just in case......some of the roads in PA can get a little rough, especially the turnpike!

CRZ, Here are the measurements for the tv stand I made.

1" thin wall square tubing: Base is 23"x23" (four legs welded into a cross). When I welded the base the tubing was cut and then welded in such a manner that the welding arched the center up. That way the tips of the legs touch the ground. I then welded a 10" section of 1 1/4" thin wall tubing to the center of the base. It would be better to get a piece of 1" id tubing but I used scrap that I had laying around. After checking that everything was square and the stand sat level, I took a 40" section of 1" tubing and welded the extra wall bracket to it. I drilled a 1/4" hole through the base and upright so I could slip a bolt though to hold the base and upright together. To store I just pull the bolt and then the upright from the base. It is very light and portable. The only thing I think would make it better is to drill the legs and weld on 4 nuts so bolts could be threaded up or down through the legs to level it on uneven ground.

We used it all weekend and it worked great on level ground with a 40" flat screen. I could move the stand around to keep any glare off the screen.

X10, I am looking at the Ready America Travel TV mount above the cupboard. Does yours rotate enough to view from table in slide out?

Yes it does, lots of movement on it. Just remember it is only strong enough for a TV of up to 27" and 40 lbs.

Yea, thanks X10 I see they have one for bigger tv's but it only comes out 7.5" and the one you have extends 16". I am not sure if 7.5" will get the tv out far enough to see sitting in the slide out.

Wondering how the TV mounts are holding up in the bedroom, I am wanting to mount mine on the wall but curious about how they are holding up, did you put screws in the bracket where it did not hit the stud also, XLR HFS 27, 2012. Appreciate any feedback.

Mine and Kabooms are mounted in the metal stud, solid as a rock. Just follow the measurements and directions I posted earlier in this thread.

Mine is holding up just fine and is screwed into the studs only.

I am just getting ready to put a tv mount in the living room, above the stereo. My question is the length of screws. I have some lag bolts that say they are 1.5"... when inserted through the mounting bracket, they stick out appr 1 1/8"... is this too long? Kind of just eyeballing the wall thickness. I might add a washer on the mount side, to give me about 1" of screw going in to the wall.

Or should I get a shorter lag bolt/screw... they had 1" at the hardware store, But that wouldn't leave much biting into the wall. Maybe I need to try a different hardware store, find a 1 1/4".

Thoughts anyone?

Can you drill a pilot hole and put a pick or paperclip in too see how thick your wall is?

Since you were kind enough to offer advice on one of my posts, I will gladly return the favor. I mounted a 40" above the entertainment cabinet on the factory reinforced (marked) area (yes it fills the available area) and a 29" in the garage where the power & antenna are prewired. I looked at the extending brackets, but opted for the low profile tilt version that I could lock down once in position. Both the bracket and TV's are tightened down good so I never take them down.

I tried using a stud finder, but pressing on the walls was a better indicator of where it is solid. For the garage TV, I put two screws clean through the wall and into the bathroom medicine cabinet to make that bracket solid. I read on another post to push pillows between you slide wall and the big TV in the living area while travelling - works like a charm. I've had it out twice since installing and have had no issues.
