Not sure. Only camped twice and both times used gas didn't know it also had electric. Although both times the water never got really hot just Luke warm so I was looking around And came upon that. I also turned the cold water value off that ran between both hot and cold lines. I think to much cold water was blending. Does all this make sense?

Yes, the cord should be your electric side of water heater.
Before plugging in make sure the switch on the outside of water heater is off.

Sounds like you may have the valve figured out.

Normally luke warm indicates that the bypass are in "by pass" or not fully turned allowing it to by pass cold water .

The outside switch was on when I plugged it up. Should it always be off? And

Only off if theres no water in tank.
You can also use gas and electric at the same time for quicker recovery rate!
Or separate if you wish.

When you say both at the same time do you mean turn the switch on in the bathroom that says heater? If so then I think I have it figured out. Thank you so much. I'm a first time camper so I need all the help I can get.

It looks like they forgot to plug in your water heater to run off electric. When I am plugged into power at the camp ground I leave the hot water switch in the bathroom off and turn on the power switch on the hot water heater. If you open the hot water heater compartment outside door and look around you will see an on/off rocker switch. If I need hot water faster I will turn both switches on.

Bathroom switch on = propane hot water.

Tank switch on = electric hot water
