Jacks

Looking for a good set of jacks to replace stock jacks on my 2015 27 XLR. Just had dealer replace the ones that came on the camper. 1st camping trip these cheap jacks do the same as the old ones. put them down put pressure on them turn the handle loose jack comes down till no pressure is on the jack . When you move around in the camper everything shakes. Ready to forget the dealer buy new ones myself looking for feedback on best MFG. Put the jacks down take your fingers back the nut down not very stable.

Do you have some kind of triangulating stabilizers? Maybe checkout the Steadyfast system.

Mickey, I assume they couldn't be sinking into the ground. Maybe you're not turning the hard enough... As in... Putting enough pressure on them. I continue to add pressure and lift the camper a little... Starting with the slide side first.

If you really want to make it pretty steady, go to the local autoparts store and by 4 jack stands, the screw type.
Put them on the frame and screw them up, will make it rock solid. Otherwise it WILL move some from the scissor jacks that are attached to the trailer.

Mickey you are saying the screw jacks simply unscrew and loosen by themselves, right?

WolfWhislte I put enough pressure on to lift the camper take the crank off the nut jacks will go back up by their self you can turn the nut by hand and let the camper down.

If you know the jack manufacturer, you could contact them and ask if you are doing something wrong.

I had the same issue last week, seen a lot of road grime and what looked like oil on the threads, once cleaned off they held. Throughly clean them and spray the long bolt and nut with brake cleaner, any lube/grease on the threads will cause the jack not to hold weight.

I wonder if you lubricated them. I wouldn't. If so, try cleaning with a brake cleaner... The milder stuff. BTW, I did search and read others gave the issue, for whatever reason. One example the guy lifted the camper more and problem cured.

Using a block of some sort under the foot pad of the jack eliminating full extension helps tremendously. I use an 8" thick block of cedar wood. I have found minimizing extension of the screw jacks give more stability.

I don't believe they are designed to lift the camper just stabilize it. I have the same unit as you and don't have any troubles. I just crank them down and snug them they stay tight. Use a block of 2x6 for a pad this way the base of the jack does not sink in the ground.

Mickey, not sure what else you could do, mine acted the same as your describing, even while spraying them down I ran it up and down to make sure to get all/any hidden residue in the "nut" end as if they has any lube it wont hold.
Berj, your correct it wont lift the campers, however they wont hold any weight you place on them, they just unscrew until there is no weight...basically useless.
Good luck on finding a fix.

I was out only once so far but had the same problem. I thought maybe I hadn't tightened them enough until I read this thread.

IMO I think you are right, you might think they are unscrewing but they are really sinking. Always put a pad down even on asphalt....

If I run the jacks down with bike loaded. When the bike is out, the rear jacks are a little loose.

Yes, the pad on the jack will slide on asphalt.

I built 4 pads from a 2X6 sandwiched between some 1/4 inch plywood and then coated them with Flex Seal.

Used some yellow nylon rope for a handle on each.
