Just ordered a 2016 Thunderbolt 375amp XLR

So after much research and debate, we have decided to leave the Grand Design family for the XLR family. Grand Design makes a great product and we have been thoroughly happy with the fifth wheel, and the customer service has been top notch! This was not based on any negatives about GD, but rather the most I can get for my money and after meeting the west coast rep for Forest River, I can say that he will definitely take care of any issues regarding the new toyhauler.

We ordered it about four weeks ago and it is slated for an 8-10 week production period. It was ordered with almost every option including full body paint in HD orange with the silver being replaced by Ford Platinum Metallic White to match the truck.

I will be towing it with a 2015 Ford F350 FX4 6.7L Diesel, cc, lb, srw. We are excited and cant wait to take delivery of it from Parris RV in Murray, Utah.

Any pointers or pieces of advice from all you seasoned veterans?

Regards,

Joe N.

Congrats Joe. Sounds like you have done your research and yes, XLR will take care of you. We also did Ford colors to match my current (and next) truck. If you have any specific questions, this is the place to get them answered. Lots of knowledgeable folks here and the plant manager for XLR has also been known to lurk around here and come out to help out when he can...

Welcome to the XLR family! This section of the forum has a ton of great pointers and mods from many members, so take the time and go through as much of it as you can stand to read.... And, not to put a damper on things, but when we were told "6 to 8 weeks" for our new unit back in 2014, it was more like 17 weeks. They actually bumped me to a 2015 model because it took so long. So I wouldn't make any reservations for 9 weeks away. Hopefully they will be quicker with yours. Congrats!

When did you place your order if you don't mind me asking?

Joe, the 8 week lead time is without paint. At least it was when I ordered. Paint added 2-3 weeks to my build.

Yeah I wondering because according to the west coast rep, he says they make them faster during thre winter because of less orders. We are hoping for the best. I just texted him so I'm waiting to hear back regarding an ETA.

That's what I thought too but they actually run almost the same numbers all year long. Mine was 11+ weeks then another week to get it to the dealer.

Placed the order on 3/14/14 and trailer came in around 7/20/14. Now, there were some factors that affected the build that aren't in play anymore (like being the tail end of a bad winter when the factory couldn't get parts, and having a shortage of delivery drivers,) and the factory people both on here and on the phone (bulletbob, John M, Mike C, and Brian S, Carmen, and Diane) have been awesome. Great folks to deal with.
