Lippert ramp door cracked week or so after factory warranty

I have had concerns about these lippert ramp doors. Seems like quite a few have problems. We took delivery on about 6/5/15 and just this morning I discovered a crack in the inside face as shown in the pics. Pretty bummed out about this defect. I can only hope Forest River can make Lippert make it right. We don't even load anything we occasionally use it as a deck. We had a Work and Play for 10 years and had no issues with the ramp. I'm concerned about the entire Lippert ramp door integrity now on my 2015 Nitro 24fqsl.

Is that a crack or a plywood seam where the coating has cracked? Looks real straight to me. There is square tubing in a work and play ramp but yours could be angle.

I'm not sure how these ramps are built up. I agree it looks straight almost down the middle. The crack is in the anti slip layer and appears to be delaminating from the substrate. The coating appears to be 1/16" thick and is beginning to curl up on either side of the crack.

Wonder if that is an opening seam in the anti skid material. You can close it up with a very small bead of silicon, dark grey or black.

Looks like a seam not a crack.

I assumed the anti skid was some sort of epoxy sand filled resin coating but could be mistaken. Having worked in plastic laminate industry it looks like a stress crack from shrinking and appears to start at the bolt hole.

It will need to be sealed at least but I worry if some underlying issues are present that will continue to develop into bigger problems.

It looks to me like a less than perfect bond to substrate with little consequence, however the substrate is exposed and will continue its exposure if edges aren't sealed and water rot sure to occur.

Greatly relieved. Lippert called today and is going to make it right. Very prompt and they agreed it wasn't right and did not try to play the 12 month card. So relieved.

I think that Lippert has realized that they do have problems with the ramp doors. Not sure if they have made any changes in structure. Lippert has put three ramp doors on our XLR. Not totally satisfied with the last one.

Three doors on my toyhauler too. Lippert has paid for everything. The bad thing is all the time my toyhauler has spent in the shop. FWIW, my doors were failing on the hinge line.

That appears to look like a seam in the anti slip coating to me and not a crack

Speaking of the anti slip coating which by the way is slippery when it gets wet. I slipped down ours the other day taking a bike out because it was wet and unfortunately the foot peg punched a hole in the ramp. it did not go through to the other side but there is a hole int he plywood. Wondering has anyone repaired a hole in the ramp before? My hole is about the size of a silver dollar. I was thinking about some spray foam to fill the void a bit and then overlaying some more anti slip on top of it

get some horse hair fiberglass to fill and sand to flush then recover . the spray foam will not hold up . or some other heavy duty epoxy

I have had three ramp doors put on put on our XLR also. Not fond of Lippert ramp doors but seem to be the only supplier.

My ramp door is doing the same thing. Actually it's more like the hinges are breaking through the door. I am very concerned about loading and unloading my motorcycle in the event that the door brakes off completely.

why wouldn't a rubber mat / floor glued to Styrofoam with 3/16" plywood and 1/16" fiberglass on the other side not hold up. Why would 100 psi rolling up it cause failure? Lippert should replace every darn ramp built like this with something that will hold up. The ramp should have 1/4" aluminum plate under the rubber mat / surface.

Mine is partly hollow around the perimeter. Most notably where the hinges attach.
Pictures included.
