On mine they go thru the basement area so I installed pex ball valves inside and don't even have to crawl under the unit to drain and the valves are protected. I borrowed a pex tool from Home depot but later I found I needed one anyway.

Added a zip tie in case road debris or a kid "accidentally" turns it on.

I'm thinking that I'm getting tired of having to crawl under my slide out every time I want to open or close the drain or the vent tube for my freshwater tank. So this "90°, run a length of CPVC (don't use PVC for drinking water applications) and add a ball valve" mod is sounding better and better. So y'all are saying that a 90° elbow from Lowes or HD will screw on to the end of that pipe where the black cap is? I'm thinking I want to run it to the side of the camper near the forward steps, since it's right where the slide is on the drivers side. Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? Beer donations for the project?

Take the black cap with you to Lowes and check the threads to make sure you are getting the correct size. Wrap a couple turns of plumbers tape and snug it up. You'll need 2 wrenches but be careful not to twist too hard and put the plastic (Pex) pipe in a bind. It won't like it and you'll sit there wondering why you even thought about this project.

Just asking, why do you need to run a pipe up toward the steps?

Thanks for the suggestions. I want to run the pipe with the valve at the end toward an edge of the camper so it can be easily reached. I can't run it towards the drivers side because the slide is right there, in the way. Plus I can't run it forward because the tanks hang down low and the pipe would actually have to slope up to follow the contour of the bottom of the camper. So, that leaves me with running it towards the passenger side and possibly mounting a securing bracket on the step frame. Plus if the dog needs a bowl of water, or you need water for anything, you can turn the valve right there and get it without going inside for it.

It's all theoretical at the moment.
