Has anyone converted their standard door to a patio?

I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ but I'm wondering about the deck. Why? Why not just sit under the awning? If there is a compelling advantage, I might look into it.

I have to agree, we ordered ours without this kit.
Not many sites can accommodate another 8'. It would be nice if you could back up to a lake or River. Every kit I've seen had a awning over the back deck.

Our 300 x 14 came with the deck. I think it is a waste of money. We have had it out twice in two years. It's more to deal with when loading toys.

It seems to me that, for the .001% of the time you might use the door as a deck, a few well-placed jack stands would do the job...

The deck would be good for keeping small kids and dogs a bit more under control.

Plus - it is really neat.

I believe a couple of other manufacturers are putting side decks on their 5ers.

(ed.) Just emembered this:

Forest River Forums - LadyWindrider's Album: Toy Hauler Tailgate for a Deck

A simple way of doing this, without the fencing is all.

Interesting responses. The jack stand idea is good if the ramp will support the weight, but I just don't see the need in general.

Good comment about the extra 8 feet at the site too. I've seen some RV Parks that even ask you to unload toys before setting up the trailer. They don't want people messing with ramps and taking the extra space at the site. So they would probably frown on the patio.

I guess I'll just put the indoor-outdoor carpet down under the awning and set out the folding chairs. It's worked for 40 years!

The problem with jack-stands is the required height varies a lot. With cables you could hand it over a cliff, it don't care.

I have a 2014 29 XLR and did not order the option. Now I want one. Does anyone know if the cable is it or was the door made heavy duty. Is there also a support needed beneath? I see something but not sure. How long are the cables?
