Ramp door

Anyone had a problem with their ramp door? This is what I discovered today. Never overloaded and am very careful with supporting ramp if not hitting level. I load my Brute Force 650, about 600 lbs and my scooter, under 200 lbs. I have used it as a deck but never more than 2 people.

When viewing the picture, it is hard to determine what is wrong. Please provide more information.

I see that crease line protruding outward. You need to take it to the dealer and see what they say. That does not look right.

Yes, as 10X noticed, there is a crease line that has appeared. To me, this would imply that the door has been overloaded or sprung by not being level where it touches the ground. Neither of the conditions have taken place. I will contact my seller today and keep you informed. Just wondering if other XLR owners have had similar problems. I seem to remember another similar post but it might have been on a different forum.

I load a 3-wheeler and a full dresser on mine and the weight is around 1,100 lbs and 1,200 lbs with me on them. You should be under weight on yours. Definately call the dealer about it.

My Work and Play ramp developed a crack in fiberglass and felt soft just above hinge where motorcycle wheels passed over. Door was replaced under warranty.

Although I was well within the weight limit, all the weight of the motorcycle was concentrated in a very small area over the hinge. I had a 2 ft by 2 ft, 1/4 inch diamond plate with a small lip made to spread the weight as I drive in. I don't know what the ramp cost but I can't imagine it was too cheap.

I remember the same post, it was on this forum. Someone also posted a source that makes a diamond plate cover over the hinged part of the ramp. Does anyone remember who sells it? I might have to do this from what I have heard. I have yet to load my Harley on it yet.

Any sheet metal shop should be able to shear a piece of heavy gauge aluminum diamond plate and using a break bend it to the angle needed. The only thing is how wide does it need to be and how much angle in the bend since the ramp door may not always be at the same angle. Maybe two pieces of plate with a heavy duty piano hinge in the center would work better because the plates could change angles. Just a thought.

There is a company with what you described that makes a hinged version that connects to the door. Link was posted on this forum but I can't find it.

Hey Meandmylabs, I have a simliar issue where the inside of the door became soft in the center the first time loading the Harley. I quick contact to Forest River and things are well underway for a replacement. The door was made by Lippert Co. and they confirmed the replacement door has shipped out. I've have great sucess with Forest River, the dealer on the other hand has been no help at all. Good Luck

I am still awaiting word on a replacement from Forest River on my 2013 27 HFS. It has been about a week since contacting them through my dealer

I have the 2013 XLR 27 HFS XP as well. The door arrived at the local repair shop today. Just need to call and set the date now but both Forest River and Lippert have been awesome

Is this an issue just prevalent in the center of the ramp or are others experiencing similar issues on the edges? That's where I load my bikes. Even with just one bike (KTM 990R) I load it on the left side. I suppose to even the side to side weight distribution I should load it on the right as the water tank appears to be predominantly on the left.

I have a 2 year old XLR that we use 8-10 weeks a year with 2 motorcycles. I have been carefully keeping an eye on the ramp door for any unusual issues. So far, so good!

It is great that Forest River stands behind their products and are able to help you out!

I just today got the word that my ramp will be replaced. In my case, I really think it was water infiltration. It showed up after a big rain and we had the door flat for use as a deck. There is a noticeable bad spot where water could enter. The crease and deformation has become far less as it has dried out. I do not own a heavy bike, just a scooter and a quad.

I just wanted to post an update. Forest River sent a new door but it did not have the decals or gasket. Cheyenne Camping Center did not realize it until I got there (about a 4 hour drive) but they were extremely helpful and took a door of a new TH which was exactly the same and installed it on my TH. Thanks loads to everyone at Cheyenne for making things right. That's a very good way to get return business.

RFK, I just noticed my ramp door as developed a line down the center on the inside. When I step on the ramp I can see this line move in and out. Is this the same type of problem you had on the inside of your door.

That's exactly the problem I had. With the door open, centerline and about a foot or so up from the ground edge. Stepping on it was a noticeable "sinking" depression of just over 1/4 inch. I took pictures with my son stepping on it and a straight edge in front of his boot. Lippert stepped up and took care of it. I've had no problems with the new door and had the bike in and out about 20 times since
