Update on the broken piece. Got the new inside unit rather quickly, so thank you RVLock. And, they ship US postal, so returning the old one was easy.
Funny thing the new one, packaged well enough to sustain a drop from top of the Empire State building arrived with the switch on and the cells dead.
I felt like a bumbling idiot trying to replace cells and get the cover back on at the same time; without scattering cells all over the ground. The cells won't stay in place while you install the cover. I used tape after 3 or 4 failed attempts. I'm sure if someone was watching they would have had a nice laugh. I know I did!
In the instructions, which the first unit didn't come with, I read to decide on a code up to 8 digits in length and write it down; so without looking at the key pad I wrote down a code including a "9"... then reading on I attempted to enter the code but noticed the lock only has 1-8, strange that they wouldn't have stated something like "using only digits 1 thru 8" in the instructions, obviously no big deal. Sounds like something I would do, just to mess with someone's mind.
I wonder if anyone has noticed this... when you enter your code after the lock is idle for awhile (that seems like the case); the first attempt at entering the code and pressing the unlock, it fails. When you immediately repeat it works. What, pray tell, is the secret for it to work the first time?

Maybe hit the " lock " button first, to " wake" the keypad up?

KK, it probably will work, but it returns 5 beeps, indicating you made a mistake. Seems strange, but I'll reread the instructions, I probably missed something.

Is this a keypad right on the lock, or a remote keypad fob?
If remote, the first attempt might be lost as it establishes a connection again. Removing obstructions between the two might help.
Otherwise, no idea as I don't have one (yet - still waiting for one to fit my lock).

My lock opens the first try as a rule. As Kenny said about waking it up it might go 100% of the time.
As for the numbers, my keypad has 0-9 to pick from on version 3.0. Yours is version 4.0 with the numbers on the handle that ran out of space to fit them in.

I haven't tried to install mine yet. By the time I got the replacement part my unit was back in storage. I'm going to wait to see how this thread resolves before I attempt or return. A 5 cent part started all this.
I really want to use it and am hoping RVLock can satisfactorily resolve these issues/questions.
What are others experience with the locks that are installed and being used? Do they open (100%) first time? Other glitches?

It is hard to believe no 9. They would have to make it less stylish and wider to fit the... you know
I tried it... If I hit unlock and suffer the error 5 beeps... Then I can enter code (not the one I wanted sounds like a glitch in the design.
I still think its going to be nice having it

We love our RV Lock with an easy install and programing. Install took 5 minutes and programing less than 5 minutes. Battery replacement was 2 minutes after a year of use. When using the touch pad it opened the door 95% of the time first time (maybe fat fingers 5% of the time, not). The FOB worked 100% of the time. When the battery goes dead it still opens flawlessly with the key.
This my second unit and I wouldn't be without it.

So, I purchased my RV lock on Amazon about a year and a half ago, and someone just asked me a question that I don't know the answer to. So I will ask it here. Direct quote of the persons question:
Dan B. asked
"The keyways on a standard rv lockset are cheap and cheezy. This is what usually fails. Are the keyways (tumbler units) on this lock a better grade?"
Any info or insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

The key set is different from the standard lock sets. If you use the touch pad or key FOB the key may never used to unlock the door.

I haven't carried trailer keys since installing this a month ago. I have a backup in the truck and one hidden outside just in case a battery dies. BUT, it's way and and not having to worry about keys.
Sure there are some folks with problems- but overall, I'm betting people have positive experiences.
A surprising side effect- the door is easier to open from the outside. My 3 year old used to have to knock to get in, now he can open the door himself. Don't know what's different, but it works better.

I misplaced my keys with the thought they will show up. Four months later and they are still missing. Just don't need keys anymore.

These are by far the best simply upgrade I've ever done. It's nice to hit the button and be in.

I jumped on this deal but it was too late. about a few weeks before I bought it and installed I actually lost my keys at a gas station while out to our destination. the DW drove back home an hour away to get the spare. I'm just glad we were all the way to our destination and then found out I had lost it. Sheesh. It would have paid for itself in the time and fuel alone.

Hey has anyone used their compartment locks?(RVLOCKS) I am waiting on my keyless entry main lock to arrive and already thinking about the compartments. I just wonder how universal they are.

I wanted to follow up on my posts/concerns a few months ago about my RV Lock purchase. I finally got around to installing it and it works perfectly and the DW and I really like it. A great purchase...

IMO--if you are using this thread as a basis for not purchasing this product, you're missing out on a great product. I now store the keys inside the trailer, as I have 2 RV locks on my unit, and the chances of both batteries dying at the same time are pretty slim. I also haven't had any of the programming/buttons not working on the first try issues described here, but I'm pretty sure if I did, RVLock would make it right. I would have liked to see video of WW trying to install the batteries though... I just had to replace them for the first time, wait until you have to do it with the lock installed on the door! Still one of the best upgrades I've done, would buy them again in a heartbeat.
