Thanksgiving Camping Trip

SO the family and i decided we were gona do a trip to either Busch Gardens in Tampa or Sea World in Orlando, and also include a few days in the Key West (SigsBee Campground on the navy base?) im trying to figure if its better to head to the keys right off the bat (tuesday before thanksgiving), do thanksgiving meal there, then spend friday-sunday at either Busch or SW....or do it vice versa...Im coming out of panama city, fl so im not to far.

I saw on google that Lazydays RV Resort has higher remarks for the Tampa area...does anyone have any other experience in that area? I see theres a handful of places in the orlando area if we do sea world...we've done disney campsites during spring break and it was sweet, but we also prefer not to spend anymore than the say the 30ish a day if possible?

what you guys think? We will be in our 27HFS...possibily with our neighbors, so we will be testing the capacity limits for sure

I can't say which order to visit in ... Key West or Tampa area but I would probably go to Tampa first. You realize Macdill AFB is close to BG? Hillsborough SP is nice but it has been years. Lazy Days is clean and nice. It is indeed a long trip panhandle to KW. That will be a busy week either place. WW

Are you planning to RV, or are you going to hotel? I would start first with someplace to stay and when they had spots. Thanksgiving week is very popular (i.e. schools are out) and the possibility of finding a spot this close may be nearly impossible. It might even be nearly impossible to find a hotel room, too.

I would base when to go where on when I could get reservations.

You do realize how far the Keys are from the Tampa area, right? It is at least 6 1/2 hours, without any traffic and you know that's not going to happen.

It's a holiday weekend and traffic will be heavy. Double your travel time estimate by 100% if you plan to travel on Sunday. If you get set before Friday and head out Monday you will be better off. The lazy days is close to I-75 and was well maintained last time we were there. DW is great but $$$. Can't comment on the others.

Forgot to add that we were in Key West in June - a week after Memorial Day and the campground was pretty full. Very nice, but it was beginning to getting HOT! We stayed at the Navy Lodge while we were there. It was really nice.....and cheap! We hunted for hotels because we tried to book online and it showed they were full. We called and they had two rooms for us that cost $79/night. Everything else there was $250 and up, mostly WAY up.

So we found out that Busch is closed on that Sunday. Our neighbors also found out that they are doing some new rudolph xmas thing late until 10pm... we figure now this trip is just going to be focused on staying in the Keys since we dont want to feel rushed.

We are planning on doing a one dayer of Busch Gardens after Thanksgiving week but before Christmas week. Figure drive down friday to a campsite , busch gardens it on a saturday, driveback the 6 hrs home on sunday.

two different camping weekends in a months time, but we figure it will be safer and more enjoyable on both ends this way.

as for as thanksgiving week in the keys, we are gona stay at 2 different places...

Wednesday and Thursday nights will be spent at this beauty! its expensive as hell, but YOLO! how often do people camp in the tropics on the bay!
Lot #67 Bay Front Platinum

Friday and Saturday nights we will be staying at the Sigsbee Campground on the Navy base (much much cheaper, and supposedly still a water spot!)

so ... lot #67 how expensive is it, Mr. Trying to keep it under $30/night. My niece pays like $120 / night right on the water... not sure the CG. One pulls the camper the other the boat.. does this once a year. I've been to KW several times, but its not for me. TEHO!

Wow! Going from Bluewater Key Resort to Sigsbee.....kind of like going from a mansion to the tool shed isn't it?
I have camped (?) at Bluewater 6 times and don't think that I could ever find a place that I have enjoyed more.
Have fun!

lol yaaaaaaa....initially this was intended to be a cheap trip...but as things started rolling, we decided to YOLO it! ive been stationed almost 9 years and my current tour is up in march, so we figured might as well...since we dont know where we are going next. spot 67 is 195/night :/ i was orginally going for spot 61 at 155/night, but by the time i tried calling it was booked by someone else online. The only spot really left for those 2 days we were looking at was the plat. spot, as i wanted a bay spot and not a canal spot...might as well if that close.

lol yaaa sigsbee im sure may not live up to it, but we figure the BW resort we are pretty much going to just stay there and hang/play on the water since its literally out the door. since sigsbee is 24/night, we are going to use those 2 days to explore and do some tourism like things. who knows, we might like sigsbee better in the future! i mean, its hard to beat 24/night lol
