Towing our new XLR hfs

Question guys??

Ok so I had a 23ft enclosed camper and pulled it with a Tundra on airbags, so I gave up on fuel mileage and purchased a 2006 chevy 2500HD, pulls like a beauty and fuel expense decreased, now I just sold the camper and purchased a 2015 Hyperlite 29hfs which I haven't pulled yet, put on weight distribution and sway control, question is? Do I need to use the tow haul feature on my truck now?

Didn't use it with my other camper, but just looking for some feedback. Thanks

I'd use tow haul mode. Is it a diesel or gas?

I only use tow/haul if I am pulling 5000lbs or more.

Tow Haul is really a shift business and engine braking decision. If the trans will go into to gear and stay there (relitively well)and you don't need the additional down hill grade braking there is no benifit to TH mode. TH is most useful going down hill and having the application of the brakes be tied to the trans downshift to provide engine braking. Flat ground I never use it, if the trailer is not"pushing me down hill I don't use it, if the trans isn't shifting constantly I don't use it (just drops you from top gear only won't save you from top minus 2 or 3 downshifting), otherwise... Check your owners manual what they recomend for the useage pattern. If you live or drive through mountains its great.

I don't see any reason to not use tow/haul. If you don't need it, it won't make any difference if it's on. If you do need it, it WILL make a difference if it is off.

Well it does downshift you from top gear. If you can run in top gear why not take the FE improvement.

Was unaware the tow/haul on Chevy's locked out 6th. My 2013 F150 EB works seamlessly and doesn't lock out any gears.

I have 2013 Silverado 2500 HD 6.0 L , I always use the feature when pulling my 29 HFS , Always thought better safe then sorry, look forward to other feedback on this subject,

You mean 6.6 L? The tow haul feature is mostly like a engine brake I suppose, my opinion is that it should be used for Hills, I'm in Florida!! But I pulled my 29hfs already for 1 trip and it was like 579 miles without tow haul and it was great. Weight distribution and sway control are awesome to have..didn't find any need for the tow haul mode.

I have a 6.7L cummins, auto. I think tow / haul is easier on the transmission when pulling the XLR 29HFS, even in FLA. Some on this forum mention their tow / haul keeps their transmixer out of top gear; I suppose there are differences between brands and models; gas or diesel. Mine shifts into 6th (5th and 6th are OD) while in tow / haul mode, and because its a diesel, it has a select-able E-brake which is only active when I turn it on; but boy, it will whoa the truck fairly aggressively with E-brake and tow / haul together... once or twice surprising the heck out of me! I vote to use E-brake all the time, and tow / haul when pulling a toy hauler. To each his own.

I use t/h mode whenever pulling. I have found that around 60 mph, with the slightly larger tires than stock (285/75-16) , i get better fuel mileage in t/h mode. It raises the rpm to about 1700 and the truck gets in the range of 14.5 -16 mpg. With out, it gets in the neighborhood of 13-13.5

i found on my 1500 sierra that tow haul seems to keep the 5.3 right in the power band. rather than trying to tow at just over idle it wont let the truck drop below a certain rpm and itwont shift under 2500. if im towing my 6x12 enclosed empty or lightly loaded i just put the truck in 4th or 5th on the highway and dont bother with TH, if i have a heavy load in there i use it, same with my 27 hfs, its always on. also i found that if youre towing at too low of an rpm the trans temps go up. good to keep an eye on those
