This thread is always worth a read. Like others have said, pulling is one thing, sway and being able to safely stop are a whole other story.

We bought 2015 30hds started with Dodge 2500 hemi. Power was fine but couldn't get rid of the sway. The trailer has a lot of tongue weight. We use a equilizer 14000 lbs hitch. Better ride but still had some sway. Went back to Chevy dually which is probably a over kill. But now one finger on steering wheel can't even tell the trailer back there! Can't beat the stability of the rear duals! Finally happy!!!Click image for larger version

Over kill I know but the piece of mind was worth it.

Very nice setup! I think the 30hds looks great behind dually pickup! It's a big camper! We love ours!

I have the 3.5 GTDI V6, 3.55 gears, Supercrew 4x4 w/ 145" bed. With the trailer towing package...

Gross combined weight rating (GCWR) - 15,500lb with Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight = 9600lb...

Thoughts? Am I understanding it correctly? thanks,
in all honesty you can crunch #'s all day will the 150 eco boost can you do it yes will it be enjoyable no. you be over your numbers real quick . so unless you really don't plan on towing it often . like 2 times a year then get a 3/4 or better . your be over just with TW on your payload and even over your GCWR

I love the way our Titan XD tows the 29hfs. I forget it's back there even when passed by semi trucks. We have taken it to some of the beaten path places and never once did I feel the truck was struggling. We towed a gulf stream 19kd with our old ram 1500 4x4 across country and my wife said never again. With the Titan she actually enjoys driving it.

Here we are in New Mexico

honestly your truck might pull it but you are not going to be a happy camper and that is what it is all about. I had a Chevy Colorado max tow of 7000lb max tongue weight 900. my TT weighs 4500 loaded tongue weight of 560lb, well within limits right ! well it towed it but going through mountains was tough on it and when the big trucks passed it wasn't fun. sure Ford, Chevy and dodge are going to say you can tow X amount however IMHO it is all about feeling comfortable and safe.

Towing - XLR 30HDS

I towed my 29hfs home from Iowa to Seattle, Wa w my dads 1500 ford eco boost w max tow package - thought it would save gas from my Chevy -- we where very wrong on that point very bad Milage 6mph max all the way home

As for pulling the ecoboost had zero issue pulling the 29hfs up to about 65 then you would get some serious sway but that could be because the first use of the WDH hitch

The 6 cylyder turbo ecoboost really surprised me w 8 speed transmission - you could stop at the bottom of any hill and the ecoboost would pull up to 65 w no problem- no straining just quick acceleration to 65 - more power than my 6liter Chevy at curtain RPMs

I was impressed

Note: The hitched weight did squat the truck a bit and that could of been the sway issue - I would of added airbags if it was my truck I believe max tow package is rated to 13500lbs towing crazy for a 1500

We just picked up a new, 2017 30HDS with the TUSON Sway Control System. We are pulling with a 2009 Dodge 2500 HD Cummins, and have no problem.

Can you guys fill me in on what type of wheel chucks or tie downs you use on your Harley?
I'm getting a 30HDs soon and I will be hauling a soft tail and an ultra limited. Thanks

Condor +2. However many options are available at different price points.
I simply roll into chock and then use 4 straps from moto to floor tie downs. (2 forward, 2 back) Never a problem in many years/miles.

depends on how much you want to spend I use the HF knock off of the condor . it's only $60 or so and works just as well as the $300 condor . I've got 12xxxx miles hauling the bike with the HF chock and never an issue

I also have a 30HDS, and love it! I use Baxley chocks. Ride on, step off. I have 3 of the in different trailers, have used them for years, absolutely no issues, and they have a small footprint.

Big fan of the B&W Biker Bars. Do a search on them in here, several write ups. They work really well and you don't need straps.

Towing - XLR 30HDS

I have a 2017 29hfs. I was pulling with a 2015 f150 super crew with the 3.5. Eco. It pulled just fine. HOWEVER there were occasional times you would feel everything. Based on that I didn't want to take it on any long trips. I decided to dump the f150 and went to a 2016 F350 diesel and it's amazing. Yes a lot of truck but now if I upgrade I won't have to worry about trucks! To note. Sway wasn't an issue as I bought the best sway hitch there was.
