Its true perhaps your shore power cord must be plugged into a wall mounted receptacle. There also may be installed an auto transfer switch which closes when the generator builds voltage. Opens shore power contact connects the generator to the RV bus. This cannot happen however if the two circuit breakers on the side of the generator are open, maybe from original build. They are small toggle switches under the insulated cover of the gen set right on the side of the generator itself, not the driving engine. Let us know.
