What are you towing 420AMP with?

We are looking at the specks for the 420AMP and wondering what people are towing with. We live in Colorado and will be doing mountain driving. We have a Ford 350 6.7 diesel SRW.
Thank you

We have the 417amp which is similar to the 420. I'll never go back to a normal truck..

I have a 2016 425 I use a 2014 F350 Crew Cab 4X4 dually 6.7 and I live in the mountains in VA and I haul two HD motorcycles and I have no problem pulling and stopping at all. Some of the camp grounds that we have gone to I would have a tough time getting anything any larger on a site at the beach or in the mountains on the east coast.

I pull my 417AMP with a Sierra 3500 Diesel (6.6L) SRW without an issue towing, slowing, or accelerating (DRW would be nice, but in the cards at this time).

The 420 is like my Vengeance's cousin. But your 420 has a much better pin weight as mine is just over 3000 lbs.. But I also have an F350 SRW and it does a fine job.

Almost 1200 miles towing so far this year and no problems at all. Headed down to Myrtle Beach next month and Disneyworld in December.

I would want a dually in the mountains myself. But you can do it with a SRW if you want.

you probably wont die with a SRW, but a DRW would definitely be ideal! LOL

pretty much any half ways modern 1ton+ diesel pickup is going to pull it just fine, though im with b370, a semi is definitely the 'best' option in terms of power, braking and stability and at the end of the day, similar fuel economy to a pickup depending on the truck, likely even better economy than a pickup

The 2016 Super Duty specs would suggest to me that u would be best off not doing it.

You know that towing capacity is for bumper pull not 5th wheel or goose neck. 5th wheel is 26,500 and goose neck is 31,000. Conventional which is bumper pull is 19,000.

your off by 11,000 lbs on your 5th wheel specs. Your quoting dually specs, the OP has a SRW

Rodney (Karl4cat) was an avid member here. He's no longer on this forum. But he was one of the first members I knew who had an XLR. I think it was a 395. He went from Mass. to Couch's in Ohio to buy his. If memory serves me correctly, he had to take it back for service one time as well.

No problems at all pulling his 395 and he had a super cab F250.

Note the 5th wheel specs for scook's truck. He's SRW, not dually.

Rodney pulls his 395 with a super cab F350, soon to be 2017 crew cab F350. I pull my 395 with a '15 crew cab F350, no problem at all.

last time we talked, Rodney was thinking about an F-450. He was/ or is towing with SRW 350 PS ... abt a 2012 or 2013 I don't recall the year. And, he was under gross weight ratings except GCWR which he was slifgtly over.

Our concern is once RZR, water and fuel are loaded we would be close to max weight. Sounds like there a few pulling with no issues. We really like the floor plan of this model but may need to find trailer with a lower weight.

What everyone lets slide will be the first thing a lawyer will go after if you are even in a serious accident.. Brakes...Stopping that sort of weight. Pulling isnt an issue with these newer diesels. Stopping is something completely different. I
I know our trailer is over 20k loaded.. Ever try and come to an emergency stop with that much weight pushing you from behind??

Keep in mind the trailer has brakes. With that much weight and 6 braking wheels, you should be able to stop the entire rig with just the trailer brakes.

I have had both SRW/DRW to pull my 401 AMP. It 43 long, 14500 dry weight and when loaded with dirt bike atv, full water(600lr) and full gas I'm totalling 18200.
My dodge SRW specs stated max towing at 17000lb. Wife wanted to be within manufacture specs as it was still under warranty. So I got a DRW (only added another 5 months of payments) max towing with the 3:72 axel is now 18500. Same truck apart from rear diff. Both pulled fine only thing I have lost now is dropping the engines sweet spot from 110km/h(70mph) at 1500 rpm to 95/100 km/h(60mph). I found keeping it at 1500 rpm was where it liked to be. I have also lost about 50-100km per tank depending on how I drive. So the debate on DRW/SRW I'm still undecided.
