This mod gives me some good ideas for our 27hfs. Off topic Roguepra but what weight of bars do you have for your Blue Ox and do you get any sway. Thanks

I thought of filling the space between shower surround and ceiling with them, too. Mayfair has or had them for $5 each. Lowes and HD has then in a boxes of 6.

1000# bars and yes to the sway...I'm new to this TT hitch thing and its a work in progress...been driving tractor trailers for 36 years but this hitch thing is killing me....the ball was loose when I got home, the dealer just threw the thing on and said goodbye....I set it up with no load so when the bikes were in the rear axle had to much weight...tires squatted more then the front axle...I have just dropped the hitch one hole in the hopes of getting some weight forward or at least leveling the trailer when it is loaded...nov. 7th I leave for Fla. so when everything is loaded I will recheck and this time its going to a scale before I hit the road...I know the problem is rear end weight but I'm in a learning process on how to fix the problem...I thought about adding water but I'm not sure of the tank location

Roguepra you and I are in the same boat. Retired 45 year tractor trailer driver but new to these hitches. My dealer said the 750 bars were enough although I argued otherwise, they said it would ride smoother. Towing with a F150 and a 1800 Goldwing in the back.Going to call Blue Ox for their suggestions and reweigh. The way it handles to me indicates its heavy in the rear. We are from Ontario Canada and going to Florida in Jan.

the 27hfs has a 900 tongue weight so I would think 750 would be to light...just my uneducated opinion... seems the dealers either don't care or don't care to know..... I've installed firestone air bags to help out even though they say not to use the air bags with the hitch, I've read that people do and get better ride and handling...I'll let you know nov 8th..lol...I would think with the 1800gw like me( 1500# for the two Harleys) you have to get the nose down a little to equal the weight out on the trailer axles or need some front ballast which is my next step..I,ll let you know if I figure it out...please do the same if you do.....

I got the 1500# bars. Trailer without bikes is about 1200# hitch weight. When I put my Street Glide & wife's Fatboy in, hitch weight drops to about 700. So I fill the fresh water tank to get more hitch weight

that's what I was thinking ..I just wasn't sure where the tank was located and didn't want to tear down the "extreme insulation" to find out....thanks

Fresh water tank is about halfway between hitch & axles.

Roguepra, the FW tank is that bulge in forward 1/3... drops closer to the ground. About 2/3 of the weight in water is carried by the tongue. Depending on model.

thanks WW....I had been traveling with minimal water thinking of the gross weight, just enough to use if need be....2/3 of 56 gal should put about 300lbs on the tongue...rvbikers bike weights are close to mine so an armchair look and some quick head math would put that about correct....I guess a trip to the scale is truly the only way to tell and stop the guess work... left myself plenty of time this next trip to work out the hitch along the way. I'm leaving the 7th from Richmond but got my site in New Smyrna for the 8th just for this reason.. (under a 12 hr trip usually)

You might want to get the manual on your hitch and start from scratch. The older campers we had were all ultralites. The XLR was the first one that I needed a WDH. I didn't know any better and thought CW would set it up correctly. WRONG! Mine had the wrong bar size 1000 instead of 1400 and it was set up too high and also made the truck squat. I made them give me the correct bars to match the hitch and I went home and reset the hitch. It is like night and day between then and now. The back used to sag 4". Now I squat 1.5" in the rear and 0.0" movement in the front. I couldn't get the front to go down but the 1.5" for the tongue weight is about right per the manual for our hitch and tongue weight.

I used to have the anti sway brake on the side of the hitch. I quit using it. Ours pulls true and only pulls to the side when a semi is next to us, but it still doesn't sway.

Roguepra, I invested in a shurline scale to check hitch weight and I also had to tweak my hitch set up also. It's still good to hit the scales on the road to keep in check.

this is the pic of our last trip loaded..... I noticed the rear tires on the rear trailer axle had more squat then the front axle when I did my walk around...after seeing the pic it looks a little down in the back so I dropped the hitch one hole to get the nose down.... when I get it loaded this next trip I will re adjust the hitch, weigh, and add ballast if needed.. OG I also get the semi suction but I'm not sure that will ever change..

Another easy way to keep your hitch in check on the road is a tape measure. If you measure to the top of the ball when setting up and check periodically, you will know that your WDH is unchanged. Granted this doesn't really help with changing hitch weight. I've been doing this for the past couple trips making sure that I didn't have any issues since I reset everything.

I caught that too, but had assumed it to be tongue in cheek.

With all the insulation, it is so efficient it only needs 19K BTU furnace.
