Where was your first trip in your XLR?
That picture was our first trip after picking up our XLR last year. It was at a State Park on Lake Hartwell in SC. I picked up the camper Friday afternoon and called every single state park in GA that was close to the house and they were all full. I called the number for all GA state parks and they told me the whole state park system was full. I then started with SC remembering that we saw a campground from the boat earlier that summer. I called the rangers office. He told me they had two 30ft sites and a 40ft ADA site. He said the TH wouldn't fit in the 30ft and I couldn't rent the ADA site until it was the only one left. I told him I wanted all 3 sites for the weekend and I think his head nearly exploded. He was so lost as to why I would pay 3 times the $35 or whatever it was for a night. I said just give the 2 30ft sites to anyone that calls and tell them it's 2 nights on the house. I was bound and determined to camp and not be hanging out in the driveway. Plus, my wife's family has a place around the corner from the lake. He refused to sell me 2 sites and the ADA spot. Then there was a long pause on the phone. He said... When could you be here? I told him within 2 hours. Then he tells me to come on and he would figure something out. At this point my wife thinks I'm nuts. She's already given up and I have no idea what the ranger is going to figure out. We show up 2 hours later at the check in office.. Me, my wife, and our 5month old.. The ranger looks at me like I'm crazy as well. The park has shut down the whole northern side of the campground for the winter the previous weekend and the gates are locked. The ranger tells us to follow him in his truck and he leads us to a gate. He unlocks the whole entire side of the park just for us and we camped the whole weekend on the peninsula with not a soul within a half mile in the campground. It was the best weekend of camping we had in a while. Never been able to have half of a state park to yourself.
The funniest part of all of it, when I pulled into the dump station on the way out, there was a group of 4 or 5 TTs that were there for the weekend. They were completely bashing the same ranger for not opening the northern side for their party. I just smiled.. They had no idea we had camped there the whole weekend. And I don't think they were very pleasant in requesting additional space.
Sunday, on the way out, I stopped in to say goodbye and thank the ranger again, I had took some smoked quail by the office Saturday to say thank you. I told him he had disgruntled campers that were still griping. He laughed. I asked him why he let us go in there and he told me he had never seen anyone so fired up to go camping and dumb enough to pay about $100 a night for a state park with no sewer. He then informed us we were only charged for one site.
That whole weekend was a great experience. It was great to be with my family in our newly upgraded camper with a hell of a view and not another person in sight.

Found a great deal when we bought our current camper, but had to drive from Florida to Iowa in January to pick it up. So our first "trip" was taking it home. Was -9 in Iowa when we left. got to Nashville after driving all day, a balmy 20 degrees. Froze the first night, heater ran all night and couldn't hit 50 degrees. The second day we were in Florida's panhandle and stayed 2 days - 60's and 70's there... much better!!

Bought the trailer in Ohio and stayed at the state park near Lakeview; Indian Lake SP for two days. We left there for Erie Pa; Capt. Lampe - not well know, but new and very nice small park; then into Canada; Niagara - Scott's Family park... so, so. then to the Finger Lakes region of NY; Clute Park (not so nice) then to Watkin Glen SP (Wow)... then to Gettysburg and Caledonia SP (very nice)... the park was completely full when we got there the next day there were only a few campers; then to a nice park in VA (Claytor Lake). The last stop was near Louisville GA to do a little family geneology searching... Magnolia Springs SP, which I thought was pretty nice. I brought the bike along and rode everywhere we stopped. The riding highlights were the Gettysburg area and Finger's Lake... awesome. I looked for photos and can't find a single one.

That sounds kinda like when I bought the Greywolf 21RR in Iowa at Terry Frazer's... I was by myself ... it was around freezing that night, nothing like your -9. I left the next day (the biggest TH or trailer I had ever pulled with the hitch totally wrong; all over the road and the trailer tires that they assured me were right were very low on air. I drove straight through to Chattanooga; staying at Fort Walmart; no sleep, left very early for home.

Old Gold sounds like Twin Lakes campground. They have some good one that work there most of the time, that was also the first place we took our XLR camping when we got it.

We were down by the dam on the SE end of the lake. I think it was Sadlers Creek. I'll have to check out Twin Lakes.

Drove from Richmond, Va to Hamilton ,Ohio to pick ours up on three hours of sleep after an 11 hr work day. After spending most of the day at the dealer,We limped up to Hueston Lake state park, opened up and tried everything out to make sure it worked..including the bed then the next morning headed home.

My first trip was to Wes Watkins reservoir near OKC. It was not really a trip to camp but to see my first grand son be born. Had a great though doing both!
