Before and after our spring snow storm. Went to Chief White Crane State park in South Dakota. We had a great time with our new toy, lots of mods coming to make it our own.
Very nice before and after shots!

That picture was our first trip after picking up our XLR last year. It was at a State Park on Lake Hartwell in SC. I picked up the camper Friday afternoon and called every single state park in GA that was close to the house and they were all full. I called the number for all GA state parks and they told me the whole state park system was full. I then started with SC remembering that we saw a campground from the boat earlier that summer. I called the rangers office. He told me they had two 30ft sites and a 40ft ADA site. He said the TH wouldn't fit in the 30ft and I couldn't rent the ADA site until it was the only one left. I told him I wanted all 3 sites for the weekend and I think his head nearly exploded. He was so lost as to why I would pay 3 times the $35 or whatever it was for a night. I said just give the 2 30ft sites to anyone that calls and tell them it's 2 nights on the house. I was bound and determined to camp and not be hanging out in the driveway. Plus, my wife's family has a place around the corner from the lake. He refused to sell me 2 sites and the ADA spot. Then there was a long pause on the phone. He said... When could you be here? I told him within 2 hours. Then he tells me to come on and he would figure something out. At this point my wife thinks I'm nuts. She's already given up and I have no idea what the ranger is going to figure out. We show up 2 hours later at the check in office.. Me, my wife, and our 5month old.. The ranger looks at me like I'm crazy as well. The park has shut down the whole northern side of the campground for the winter the previous weekend and the gates are locked. The ranger tells us to follow him in his truck and he leads us to a gate. He unlocks the whole entire side of the park just for us and we camped the whole weekend on the peninsula with not a soul within a half mile in the campground. It was the best weekend of camping we had in a while. Never been able to have half of a state park to yourself.

The funniest part of all of it, when I pulled into the dump station on the way out, there was a group of 4 or 5 TTs that were there for the weekend. They were completely bashing the same ranger for not opening the northern side for their party. I just smiled.. They had no idea we had camped there the whole weekend. And I don't think they were very pleasant in requesting additional space.

Sunday, on the way out, I stopped in to say goodbye and thank the ranger again, I had took some smoked quail by the office Saturday to say thank you. I told him he had disgruntled campers that were still griping. He laughed. I asked him why he let us go in there and he told me he had never seen anyone so fired up to go camping and dumb enough to pay about $100 a night for a state park with no sewer. He then informed us we were only charged for one site.

That whole weekend was a great experience. It was great to be with my family in our newly upgraded camper with a hell of a view and not another person in sight.
Interesting story OG and well told. I've found camp sites available as "walk up" and many state parks hold one or more for emergencies. Some also have sites that you cannot reserve online (Reserve America, for instance). At Gamble Rogers near Flagler FL, they have 2 and one guy stayed for the full 14 days, but had to do it one day at a time.

Yes we love our 30hds it has a lot of room. It pulls good. And so far the Quality looks good. Mainly started looking at the Hyperlite for the weight for this size trailer. My Dodge 2500 with Hemi handled it pretty well. Looking forward to a great summer camping.

We went to Findley State park. Its close to home just in case any issues come up. Every thing worked great 9 nights with some in the high 20's and even had snow the last night. The whole family is loving the new camper.

Great place. We live up the road about 45 miles and never knew it existed until a local FROG weekend a couple years ago.

Enjoy your camper!

Our first trip in our 2016 29hsf xlr hyperlite was to the badlands offroad park in Attica, Indiana. Wonderful trip but a little stress ful due to never having pulled anything larger tgan a car hauler and two mastador dogs who this was their first camping trip also but was a nice trip overall.
