XLR 29HFS - GFI pops using a 110 extension cord

Hello all. First time posting here .. I have a 2016 XLR Hyper Lite 29HFS and when I use and extension cord and a 30 AMP To 110 Plug, I trip the house GFI outlet that I plug into .. When I use a NON-GFI outlet from the house everything works fine in the trailer ... Is there a problem or is this by design? I read somewhere that the power commander of the trailer use a small amount of voltage that can cause a fault .. Wasn't sure if that was true ..

I have 2015 29HFS and use a 30amp to 110 plug on a GFI house outlet all the time. Never tripped the GFI. I'm guessing you have a connection loose some where. I would look at the outlet on the camper first.

That is to be expected. Two GFCIs in series many times do not play well together. The GFCI in the RV is causing the one in the house to trip. The issue may not occur every time, however some combinations of GFCI outlets in series can cause issues.

As Flybob said, this is very common. It does not indicate that you have a problem.

While it may not necessarily be a 'problem', many of us have no issues plugging into a GFCI shore outlet. I would imagine that while you have no issues using a standard outlet, their IS something in your coach that is causing it to trip the GFCI circuit of the shore power outlet. More than likely a loose wire in your Main Panel... if not, a possible loose wire within the shore power's own GFCI outlet.

Do not plug a gfi protected circuit into another gfi circuit. The supply gfi will trip most every time.

When you plug in to the gfci receptical,that outlet monitors the amperage flowing in the circuit hot and nuetral wires. Any leakage of that current, that exceeds the set level of the gfci receptical will cause it to trip. That leakage is usually to the ground wire. When doing home wiring you typicaly bond the nuetral and ground together at the main service. Sometimes they do that in TTs to. I did electrical work for 42 years and many times I have witnessed the problem you have. I would say that somewhere in your system the nuetral(white) wire and the ground(green) wire are tied together.

Another thought is a tired GFCI outlet. I had the same problem at my house. Replaced the outlet with a new GFCI and haven't had anymore trips.

Quick check. Just trip your gfci in the coach and plug in. No trip and you have the answer.
