XLR rear toilet...does it have a J trap?

Anyone with experience with the rear toilet in the XLR series...does that toilet have a J trap under the floor?

I havent seen a trap in any RV toilet, and Ive had a bunch of RV's since 1969.They dump directly into the black tank. The ball valve in the bottom of the bowl is the "trap".

Ah oh...tanks drained...sensor says empty...there's water jus' below floor level. Now that's it's going below freezing I gotta wonder what's goin' on down there? Maybe a clog?

I should point-out this unit is new to us. We've been going over it for a coupla' weeks. Minor issues here and there...but this is new. We haven't been using any toilets...jus' draining everything to prep for freezing temps.

EDIT:Just finished reading a list of searched threads titled "holding tank won't drain" and "clogged rear toilet"...I see I'm in for some interesting work.

Do you have two black tanks? Look for a valve handle in the driver side wheel well for draining?

I was just about to point out the same. The rear black tanks has it's own valve handle that comes through the frame in the wheel well. Lots of people have been surprised by this as dealers aren't always great at PDI's.

See this previous thread about the exact same issue...

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...les-89251.html

Look at the video in the first post of page two of the thread. At the 3:46 mark you will see the handle for the rear tank valve.

Fonzie & Karl4Cat,

Thank you for providing addt'l information.

This is a used unit from a very nice couple. This wildly interesting, fascinating tidbit of information was not mentioned. I'm quite certain I lost four productive years of life over this. I have to go lie down now. Have a pleasant evening everyone.

RV sits on adjoining acres of my property...I'll let it loose there. The lake NYC gets its drinking water from is only 100 feet away...

Sorry...couldn't resist.

We're all septic here. We'll call it "surface septic"...won't be bad as I added 2 paks of a digester this morning thinking it was a clog issue.

So, in closing XLR owners w/addt'l rear toilet should be aware that FOUR (4) waste valves exist. There is some misinformation here and there about rear grey and black tanks and how they're connected. This afternoon I found the truth.

I trust this will help others searching for reliable information.

I believe it's in a different location is because the distance is too far from the docking station for a cable operated valve which the front three employ. A solution, if one wanted all their valves together, would be replacing the rear black dump valve with an electric valve with the switch in the docking station area.

Those of us waiting to find-out what's gonna happen
when I dump my rear black tank onto my finely manicured lawn...
here are the results.

The rear tank we think is full seeing that liquid is near the floor when peering down the toilet throat.

Two days ago we dropped two packs of Bio-Pac digester into that
tank followed by three gallons mistakenly thinking the tank was clogged seeing we hadn't located the 4th black tank valve yet.

Today we extended 20 feet of hose and opened the tank utilizing the recently discovered 4th valve. I very much doubt 50 gallons was expelled. Water is visible down the throat of the toilet but probing with a stick it is only a layer of liquid at the bottom of the tank. The effluent was greenish with no solids, the aroma was definitely human product but with a heavy dose of deodorant. Not nearly as fragrant as I expected.

Whew...glad we're not clogged as originally thought and it's
apparent the rear toilet in this XLR sits directly over the tank
unlike the front toilet...which is not for my use...belongs to
the chairwoman of the estate.

This concludes the thread entitled "XLR rear toilet...does it have a J trap?"
No, it doesn't. No, it ain't clogged. Water visible in toilet throat means it's time to begin the empty process and you'll be using the cleverly hidden FOURTH valve.

Is it true that the black and grey are in the same tank for the rear bathroom?

Yes, the rear bath's sink also drains into the rear black tank.

Love the info on here. Was talking to a sales guy this weekend and am considering adding a 1/2 bath in my XLR garage. I mentioned I already have washer/ dryer hookup so plumbing is existing (me meaning hot and cold water). he says yeah it will work drains into existing black tank. Now I'm not in my camper but I believe that's a 2" drain. Hmmmm. 3 inch toilet into a 2 inch pipe. And dwhit, since I am in PA I'm a little worried too. Always heard s^#@t flows downhill

Mike, the washer dryer drain bypasses all tanks and goes directly to the sewer outlet. So it can NOT be used for anything but the washing machine. That said, unlike a motorhome where the washer can run will in motion, the washing machine can not be used without the sewer hose hooked up and running to a campsite sewer inlet.

Hey, thanks Karl. My plan was to install another black tank under the garage. My old Raptor had 2 tanks and it had a 3" dump valve right on the end of the tank. Ran 2 hoses into a Y adapter and could dump whichever tank was full. Just thought sales guys suggestion was rather funny. I just want to use existing hot and cold plumbing to add a sink and feed toilet.

The 4th dump valve on my 415AMP is labeled "grey water" just to add confusion.

If using a hose and 3 inch discharge valve to run external water back into the camper to help flush the tanks / lines of debris be aware the water will exit the drain hose connection for the laundry washer.
