10x, I went on the Forest River site and looked at the new 29HFS floorplan, No spec.'s and no photos. I sure like the lay out and the optional recliners vs dinette. To bad they don't offer that option on the 30HF S5. It doesn't make sense to release a new model and not have any spec's or photos.

Glad some one else has noticed this new model. Google it and you will find a bunch of sites with specs and photos. Try this one...

2014 XLR Hyper Lite 29HFS Toy Hauler

I was thinking of going 5er but want to keep length down. The 27' is not what I was looking for, basically, the main bed. This new layout changes everything for me. I like where FR is going in this light weight toy hauler.

Thanks for the link. I like the front bed lay out. It also has the garage side door forward of the rear bed. I like it.

I really like our 27HFS, but this model seems to take care of the couple of complaints I had about it. The way the front bed is laid out is much better, and the rear door forward of the bunks, and under the awning, is a big improvement. I like it!

Hey all,

New to this travel trailer thing as I just bought a 2014 XLR 29HFS. Been looking for a while and was about to pull the trigger on a 27HFS when I saw a 29' that pulled on the lot. I was so,d as soon as I walked inside.

The quality seems better than others I looked at. ( Kodiak, Fun Finder Etc.). There are a few things I think could've been designed a little better but for the money, you can't beat it. I'm very picky about what I spend my money on and I can say I'm very pleased with it so far and very glad I didn't get the 27HFS.

I'll be glad to take photos or answer any questions anyone may have about it.

Thanks Joe

STLfan, Congtatulations, If the 29HFS had been available I would have bought it instead of the 27HFs.

Just ordered 2014 XLR 29 w/ every option! They will build and I will pick it up middle of April. I retire May 31st. Am experienced Trailer owner, but this is our first toy hauler. We researched for four months. I have big Harley and will pull with 2500 HD full tow package. Watch my vapor trail!

Hi Dukester (hope you see this soon). I have $$$ on a 29HFS that should be ready in a couple of weeks. I have a 2500 also... (mine is a RAM w/CTD... a short bed)... so, for this unit or even the 30HFS5 no problem with the TV. The 30s are left over 2013s and the 29 will probably be a 2015, which is a factor. With the layout basically the same, did you consider the 30? The 30 is about $5K more money (which isn't much more for a 5th wheel), plus the cost of a slider hitch, but the 30 also has a 5500 Onan. I have been told the 5er will tow so much better and I would love it, but wonder about the height and the 2K lbs more the 30 weighs. It is also 6" wider than the 29. If you considered the 30, what do you think? Also, I have never pulled a 5th wheel.

Wolfwhistle,
I think it's all about needs and preference
I know 5th wheel is more stable tow and better space utilization, but...
1) My wife and I are getting older and do not need elevated spaces.
2) I do not want to give up the bed of my truck.
3) I already own two generators and prefer their portability.
4) the 29HFS APPEARS TO MATCH MY REQUIREMENTS PERFECTLY
I pick mine up this week and will tow it back to Florida. Will let you know how that goes.

Dukester, I also don't like the steps from ground the the main floor and the steps up to the bedroom. The generator located below the bed, would be a huge noise issue. Also, the bed of the truck staying free is another issue and an excellent point. I will probably stick with the 29 as well. If I may ask, where are you getting your from? I live in North FL, BTW. Thanks for you input! Happy camping.

Purchasing mine from Jeff Couch's RV Nation in Hamilton Ohio. I'm using Mr Scott Peavley. It is scheduled for completion this week. We are getting excited of course.

Dukester, congratulations on the new 29HFS. Did you go with the dinette or optional recliner seating?

Hi Kaboom, we ordered all three packages incl. extreme weather, recliners for slide out, and fold-down dinette for the garage. That way I can also use it for a study/computer area and have my own TV for sports, etc. Garage/man-cave, I guess...what I am looking for are ideas for additional stowage areas and how to mount them on these trailer walls. My unit rolled off the manufacturing line today and we will go retrieve it Easter weekend.

Congratulations, the recliners were not an option on the 27 HFS when we purchased. It sounds like they have taken care of all the things we wish were different on the 27hfs.

Are any of you going to Sturgis this year 4-10 August? And, if you have been before, I'd like to hear about your recommendations for parking the Trailer. Right now, I am looking at Katmandu RV Campground...I'm not real wild about being in the middle of all the craziness...I can ride my bike in for whatever events we want to go to. The good thing about Katmandu is they have a shuttle (no traffic to deal with on the bike or parking to find).

Also - am going to Boone (Blue Ridge) in June - looking at Grandfather Mountain Campgrounds. Would love your comments for that place or any other. Thanks.

STLfan, I'm settled on the 29hfs now. I didn't order one, but picked one that was already on order by the dealer. It has the basic features, plus recliner couch IPO of the dinette. Gen prep, but no gen; doesn't have the extreme weather package, that I would have preferred (but don't think its a big deal); and the single bed in the toy bay. I was initially told it should be on line by today (4/10) but now they say 5/1, which seems better, since I am going to begin a vacation trip from there up into Canada, through New England and back to FL. I was wondering if some kind of moveable island that could give much needed working surface and storage would be a good idea (in your opinion) in the kitchen (picture attached) and if a folding table and chairs would be good to carry along? I am also concerned about no oven. You mentioned a few things that could have been designed better; can you elaborate, please?
