So I picked up my rig today and the battery boxes are mounted too far back on the tow tongue to install covers on them. They're blocked by the front curvature of the rig. Any one else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Hi,

First thing - welcome to the forums!

I have a different unit but I have found the battery box to somewhat challenging to get the lid on or off. Depending on the box some lids are easier to remove sideway but still pretty tight.

Can you post a picture?

Here are three pics. See how the front of the cab curves outward? Battery covers don't have enough room to be placed on the boxes

Could you cut the 2 corners on the rear of the covers like 3" or so to give the cover a little more flexibility and then put a strap or bungie around the cover horizonaly to bring back together?

I think I would take it back to the dealer and have them move the mount forward so the covers would fit.

The dealer is going to call the Forest River Rep and ask them what to do. I don't want to modify the covers this is brand new and should fit properly

Yep I understand, i would feel the same way.
I guess I thought that moving them forward was already out of the question.

Is there any wiggle room (even an inch) to move the boxes forward in the battery box frame?

My dealer cut the inter side handles off my boxes to help avoid mounting the boxes completely back against the trailer. Instead they were able to move them slightly forward. The lids are a real pain even with removing them from the side.

Well the dealer told me today that the manufacturer said to move the battery tray down so that the covers will fit. Which will mean cutting and welding. Dealer told manufacturer that they need to look at their design because I won't be the last customer with this problem. Gee ya think? I'll post pictures after...

So the dealer lowered the battery tray about 6" and cut the covers. The manufacturer told the dealer that the tray was designed for one battery and not two 12v batteries.
