5th Wheel Stabilizing Jack

Does anyone use a 5th wheel stabilizing jack? Does it help? We have a 2017 Stealth toy hauler. This is our first 5th wheel. Once we are set up you can feel a little movement in RV when someone is walking around. We saw another 5th wheel that had a stabilizing tripod jack under the 5th wheel hitch. Just wondering if anyone uses one and does it help.

A much talked about topic here.

Some like them, others don't. We tried one and it didn't help much.
Others have said they work well.

There are also other methods for stabilization such as JT's Strong Arms and SteadyFast.

A search will find lots of reading.

We have JT's Strong Arms front and back and they work well. No bounce or shaking.

None for us- we use triangulating stabilizers like mentioned above. My preference is SteadyFast (less bars, easier on the hands, same or slightly better performance).

Hi,

We have used a tripod for years and feel that it does help.

FWIW.

Don't waste your $$$$ on a tripod. If they do help, it's on a smaller fiver, and it isn't much. Plus they are bulky to store. Everyone in our camping group used to have one. None of us have them now. SteadyFast is the way to go if the movement bothers you.

I'm a huge jt strong arms and xchock wheel stabilizer guy! Put them on our 42' fifth wheel and man what a difference. We had a tripod on our smaller fifth wheel and it did help some, but nothing like the jt setup! IMO

We also added 2 stabilizer jacks in front of the tires mid unit and it took out the bounce..

Not needed with self leveling, tripod has to be removed to make adjustments. If it was necessary manufactures would sell it as an accessary.

We have the BAL TriPod FASTJACK. Before we decided to purchase a tripod, we talked to people who had tripods. Those that liked them had solid/rigid connectors between the tripod legs. The people who didn't feel tripods helped much had chain or some other non-rigid material between the tripod legs. This tripod has solid connectors and works very well for us. The front overhead area no longer moves near as much as it did.

I will say, that no matter what you do, your RV will never be as rock solid as your house.

I have never used one as I have heard from several people that have used them that they didn't make much difference. I found a cheap and easy way to stop movement..I used a set of tiedown straps. Ran them from upper right to lower left leg and vice versa. Tighten them up equally and they stopped a lot of side to side movement. Stopped front to back movement with x-chocks. New 5th wheel has auto level...nice and steady.

I second the JT's Strong Arm Jack. I had a King Pin stabilizer (tripod) to much of a hassle.

My wife has vertigo so she was always on my ***** to stabilize the 5ther. I tried the king pin (tripod) stabilizer, not much help. Then I tried kingpin with the between the wheel chalks, it was a little better. Then I bought the JT's Stabilizers for front, sides and rear kit, mama is happy now.

R.I.P. Kingpin stabilizer
