My orientation went well but I have a few questions like when boondockin how often do you guys recommend running the generator set? and is there ever a need to run the generator while hooked up to a 50 amp site? This is my first RV with a generator only my second ever the first was a pop up. so I can use all the advice I can get

No need to run gennie while hooked to shore power.

While boondocking run gennie everyday to recharge batteries as needed.
Do not allow batteries to discharge to deeply or the life of batteries will be reduced significantly.
50% discharged is considered dead.
Good luck and have fun!

Does your trailer have solar on it?

Yes, it is equipped with solar. Am I right in thinking I only need to run gen. when batteries get to 50% and when I need to run the a/c's and microwave? Solar seems to keep the batteries well charged and the fridge automatically switches from ac to propane when the generator is off. I want to use the gen. because an unused gen. is a faulty generator. Should I run it a couple hours a day just to keep it worked out?

Just remember if the Batteries are dead them you can't start the Generator unless you charge them up with your truck.
The solar is great, we love ours. As you know it doesn't work at night.
Have a good time.

If you decide to dry camp at a campground with no hook ups just remember to check for rules on generator. Some campground have certain times or they may not be allowed.

You only need to run the gen 1-2 hours per month. I run two energizer 6 volt gold cart batteries and they work the best!
