Looking at 2313 toy hauler

Hey guys.

I am looking at purchasing a Stealth 2313. I am concerned about towing the trailer (~6600 lbs) with my RZR inside (1100 lbs). Add in some of the usual gear and fluids and people (maybe 800-900 lbs?) for a total of 8500 lbs.

How well will my 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab 5.3l 3.43 handle this? Max towing is shown to be 9600. Anybody have any idea what I can expect the tongue weight to be loaded like this?

Any thoughts?

May have more questions depending comments on this one.

Thanks

I'm pulling mine with a Tundra , i have air bags at 35 psi and one fiction type sway bar. With a full load of water a xp850 and a Honda 300trx in it. It pulls it fine , and stops it fine with a good brake unit. The hitch weight is the issue with a TT toy hauler dry the WA2313 says it weighs 1084 lbs Add 100 lbs for 60 pound propane bottles and gas , a portion of the 800+ pounds of water it holds etc. The hitch weight gets very close to the payload rating of the truck. Leave the water out and the hitch weight loses the weight needed to have the trailer not wag the dog ( make the truck feel very twitchy) my 2313 weights out just shy of the 9999gvw of the trailer when headed out. When ready I will replace my truck with a 1 ton srw . As I travel into areas were the DOT is just waiting to see over loaded RV'ers . I also have the arctic package, hard wall option in my trailer so it's quite a bit heavier then the advertised dry weight.
If you have experience pulling trailers using your 1500 for shorter trips and some towing upgrades until you can get a heavier truck will be fine , however I would recommend going heavier when you can.

Loving my trailer

I have been reading some of other threads on this forum and that's why I am concerned. Seems most people (of those responding) think a 3/4 ton truck would be the way to go. Many had started with a 1/2 ton then moved up.

I have started looking for a new truck but that just adds to the total cost of the RV experience.

I'm in the Dallas area and there are only two Stealth dealers, one 40 mins north and one 1.5 hrs south. One doesn't even have a Stealth on the lot and the other has 1 each of four models but has not sold any in 6 months. I did see the 2313 there but I want a fiberglass exterior one. I can order one but then I might not like the construction (flaws) of it but I'd already be stuck with it.

Are Stealths just unpopular here or what?

Makes buying difficult.

I have an Evo; our salesman told us the Evo Travel Trailers were built on the same chassis as the Stealth toy haulers. If that's true, ours seems to be built well and we are overall happy with it. Had a few minor issues, but they were covered under the warranty.

Not sure if that helps you at, hopefully it can give you a little perspective.

We've had our Stealth 2313 since June and have been very happy with it. No major issues to speak of...just a few minor warranty fixes. We just recently downsized our tow vehicle from an F350 diesel to an F150 with Ecoboost. I have been very impressed with its capability. The suspension was the only real noticeable issue, much softer than the 350, but I added Timbrens to the 150 and it helped.

My trailer's yellow sticker states a dry weight of #6529. I have weighed it loaded for camping and it weighs right around #7300 with a tongue weight of about #1000. We do not haul toys, and only carry about 20 or 30 gallons of water; we usually only camp at sites with water, and electric hookups.

For us we mainly tow locally, with a couple longer road trips a year, maybe 1500-2000 miles a year. For this, a diesel just wasn't needed.

Sorry....
Been away for Thanksgiving. I hope you all enjoyed the time with family and friends. I know we did.

Funny you should say you downgraded from an F350. The other day I went browsing at our local Ford dealer and saw a F350 that was really nice. Maybe a little over kill but it was cheaper than the F250's they had.

The biggest difference between your needs and mine are the fact that I'll be hauling the toy and you are not.

Do you think if you were hauling another 1000 - 1200 lbs or so, would you still have went with the F150?

I think that if I were towing the trailer at or around the trailer's #9900 GVWR I would have stayed with the F350, or at least a 3/4 ton. I don't know if I would have went with a diesel again, but would have stayed with a heavier truck. I will be right at the 150's GVWR (7700) when we are fully loaded for camping. As far as towing the weight, the 150 has done as well as my 2006, stock 6.0 did. It is a softer suspension though, so I feel the road a lot more.

Just to throw another thought out there. Ford will be introducing the aluminum bodied F150 by the end of the year. It is supposed to be nearly #700 lighter than current models. This would add to your cargo capacity, not to mention you can get a Max Cargo package which changes the GVWR from #7700 to #8200.

It is a difficult decision, but overall; I would not want to tow much more than the #7500 of my current setup due to cargo capacity. I would not hesitate though towing #9900 with the lighter 2015 model and the max cargo, and max tow package.

Decided to pull the trigger!!!!!

Bought a 2313 today. I'll find out how it goes with my current truck and upgrade if necessary.

Thank you to those who have participated in this conversation.

Going to pick it up on Friday. We are so excited, can't wait.

Thanks again!!!!!!

We have a 2014 WA2313 and love it. Had a lot of issues that were all covered under warranty but now it is great.

I pull it with a Chevy Crew Cab 3/4 Silverado Diesel. I use a Husky Centerline WDH with sway control.

Our favorite camping is to head to Montana or Colorado with the 850lb ATV in the back. We boondock mostly so lots of heading up steep mountain dirt roads with 166 gallons of water, 15 gallons of fuel, full propane tanks and the built in Onan. I'm not sure I would be comfortable doing what we do with less truck.

Now if your just going short distances and not in the mountains I am sure a properly set up 1/2 ton is fine (just guessing though).

If you in the Midwest I can tell you where you can get a screaming deal on a new 3/4 Diesel. We just traded our 2013 for the 2015 and I was shocked how little I had to pay to upgrade. The diesels hold their value like nothing else out there.
