New here with a WA2916

Hey everyone,
New here, just purchased a 2015 WA2916. suppossedly a 29' even though the overall box length is 35'?? Where do they even get 29' from? Any ways, happy to be here, excited to take the family out for the first time. We love to go from the mountains to the deserts, and even to the beaches....Southern California has it all! Looking for some mountain areas to boondock and explore with my Wildcat 1000 4 seater. Anyone know of any good areas to recommend?

Welcome and congrats on your 2015 WA2916. The 29 probably comes from the interior closed length and the 35 is the length when opened up in the back.

I believe that's livable space. My WA2715 is about 33ft from front to back.

Just pulled this beast home. Ended up purchasing the Equal-I-Zer 4 way sway control WDH...this thing was planted right behind me. No just to drive it around town a little and get comfy with this length. Any input on temperatures I was getting while climbing the hill to get it home? I've read it's about a roughly 10 mile long 3-4% grade at about 100*F...I've got a 2007 dodge ram 2500 6.7l cummins with 35's and I was pulling about 8500lbs at about 55mph......my trans fluctuated about 195-199*F and the coolant was a steady 215*F...

When I towed with my f150 the trans temp went all the way to yellow and almost hit the red. You should be ok.

Oh yea that's not good...hah...what do you tow with now? Yea I was taking it up the cajon pass. I feel like my trans just runs abnormally hot for some reason. Don't know if your familiar with some of the roads up here but I took my enclosed trailer with my wildcat (only about 5k lbs) up to miller canyon, and going up the 138 (which is a shorter stretch but some of those little grades seem literally twice as steep) my trans ran up to 240*F. It was about 100*F that day too, and when I saw 240* I just about $h!t a brick, pulled over and let it cool down. I've since then changed fluid and filters and installed a mag hytec trans pan and rear diff cover. I see 1/2 ton trucks blasting through there towing good sized little boats all the time, makes me wonder if they're cooking the trans and just don't know it???

I love in southern Cali also. If you are overheating up the cajon with that small trailer you will definitely have a problem towing a toy hauler up the pass. I recently scooped up on a 2014 F250 diesel, and boy I am glad I did! This thing is a beast!

I didn't heat up going over the cajon I heated up going over the 138 which is 2x as steep as the cajon and winds back and forth. I probably averaged 20 mph so I'm guessing lack of air flow didn't help the trans temp situation either.

So I'm loading up the trailer and realize that the bedroom door opens during transit, the bedroom drawers don't stay shut, two kitchen drawers don't stay shut and one guide broke (a different guide was broken already and they fixed it during my walk through) the bunks in the back have a loose connection at the module that disgustingly tackily hangs from the back corner of the trailer (they wouldn't go up when I did the walk through...they fixed it...and now they wouldnt go down till I wiggled the module around) and the ramp door seems to be tweaked...I can see light around the edge of one of the corners... Hopefully my dealer won't make these foxes too painful, I plan on taking it out next weekend...

I would wait to take it in until after your trip. Most dealers take 2-3 weeks to repair. Where are you taking it?

Ack! I was hoping it'd be some lightning fast fixes they executed while doing my walk-thru. I'm going to buzz them tomorrow and see what they say. I want to take the Wildcat 4 out to Pismo, my buddy informed me I have to apparently call and make a reservation with them too...

Dealers do not "rush" to get that stuff done. They need approval from forest river before they can start any of the work.

My buddy recommended airing down both truck and trailer just past the ranger station??? Sound about right?

Yes you MUST do that or you will get stuck. Air down every tire on the trailer and truck. 12-15 lbs of air should be good

I've had one for about six months now. I've pulled it all over Texas. I'm pulling it with a Ram 3500 dually with the Cummins diesel. That truck doesn't even know the trailer is behind it. 65 mph up a 6% grade on the way out here from California. I hope your new rig works out as good for you as mine has. No issues at all! It's the perfect toy hauler as far as I'm concerned. Good luck!
