Wow! Thanks for the heads up! I've been rather lucky, I guess, because I've been careless in this regard! Our 2012 290RLT came with 15" tires so the spare rides a little higher, but still hangs down a good 3"-4" or so.
I'll be more careful going into dips or over speed bumps in the future!

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't noticed that on my 295RST, given that I have 16" tires. I will now.

I repaired the spare tire mount. Cut it and spliced in a 4" piece to make it taller and laid up a piece along the back to reinforce it. Since I didn't want the grill, I removed the swing arm mount and moved the spare to that location. Welded two stainless rollers to the frame to protect the bumper from my driveway entrance. Work great. While in the shed, I also installed a second 15K ac. Cools the camper really quickly in this Texas heat.Click image for larger version

Looks nice. Where did you get the rollers from?

I got them from an RV supply in San Antonio as I wanted to get it done, but eTrailer has them for a lot less. http://www.etrailer.com/Motorhome-Ac...48-979021.html

Looks like I have a couple of things that I've never had a problem with on any past 5ers to consider with our soon to be 325RES. The last trailer we had that did some rear end/tire dragging - agricultural work was a bumper pull that I 'cured' by installing an axle over/under kit.

Has anyone installed an under trailer spare kit? I know Lippert and BAL make them. If so, any problems? I really dislike having a spare hung on a back bumper of a really nice looking 5er. They do work fine but it sure looks like a return to the 1970's.

That is a great alternative. If the spare tire mount bothers you visually, wait until you see the bolt on propane swing arm grill mount that starts rusting to the bumper almost immediately (and I am in Texas so cannot imagine what wet climates do). I took that off after only 30 days and it left a 8" rust stain on bumper. I gave it and the Fisher Price grill to a family staying next to us that loved it! Made their weekend. Good luck with the new camper.

That good of a grill eh!! I suspect that grill and mount may disappear and the bumper painted closer in color to the body. The Cougar we were considering at least had a Weber. No idea what this one has - there was a box in the basement and it was raining -hard- during our initial post purchase walk down. I'll give it a better check on the delivery inspection next week.
