Depends on what unit you buy. Some are for use with thermostat (either single zone or multi zone), and some are controlled from the units control panel. Which one you pick depends on how easy it is to either run thermostat wires down a wall, or connect to your main thermostat and replace it with a multi zone. Most folks just use the units control panel and forego the thermostat

Unit doesn’t use a wall thermostat. It is controlled on the air diverter.

Usually those skylights or precut holes are 14 1/4 inch square, could you rotate the AC unit on the roof 90 degrees in either direction. The width of the shroud is not as great as the length, this may give you the clearance that you require. I ran into the same problem with our Crusader Lite. However in my case I just cut a inch off of the shroud with a band saw, it now fits snug and everything works fine.

I was answering AquaMan's comment about what would be required to make the second add on A/C a true ducted system.

True, the easiest way is to get the "bottom dump" type A/C unit & just hook to the existing pre-wire. But, part of the OP's original post was noise level of the bottom dump opposed to the ducted system and his quest for possible quieter options.

I'm a little confused. I currently have a Dometic 15k brisk air II. Thought I would add a matching 13k unit in the bedroom. Here is where I'm confused. I thought all ducted units where remote thermostaticly controlled. Are you saying they make a ducted unit that has the controls on the unit. I have researched a little and have not come across that. If that's the case I need to look a Little deeper. It would make a very install if that's the case.

X2 - Coleman Mach low profile unit. It'll run you right out of the bedroom with cold air. At night you can normally turn it off as the 15k ducted unit will keep up then. It's actually better having it not ducted in my opinion. You can direct the air right down on you to cool off when you need it.

I have the same unit and after looking at the opening for the second AC unit, I decided to go with a Fantastic vent fan with outside cover instead.

We are in Florida in the Winter months, that being said, it still gets up into the high 80's.

We leave the main AC unit on and in the evening an hour before going to bed I open up the Fantastic vent, turn it on high and pull the cooler air up into the bedroom. Then turn it on low for the remainder of the night.

Works perfectly and I don't have the additional weight of the second AC unit. Plus the constant hum of the Fantastic fan on low is much easier to sleep with than the compressor of an AC unit kicking on and off.

Have you looked at the Atwood Air Command non ducted? The grill dimensions are: 21.8" L x 21" W x 2.6" H and the unit comes with a remote control. You can buy a complete 15K unit with heat pump for $737 with shipping.
