AC amps

Hi all,

I am going camping with some friends at a farm in Iowa this weekend. My friend got there last night. He said where my unit will be at has a 20 amp breaker.

Should I run fridge on gas?

Is 20 amp enough to run A/C in 100 degree heat?

If not, may have to bail on this as this metal box gets real hot in that temp.

Fridge on gas will help.
Yes you can run the ac on 20 amps but turn off every thing else when you run it.
Turn off the ac when you need to use a ac item like coffee maker or microwave.
Do not put water heater on ac if you have that feature.

Make sure it is 20 amp circuit and not 15 amps.

Running my fridge and A/C on 15 amp now from my garage plug, however it's only 84 now.

Does amp go up when it gets hotter/ more demand?

Yesterday evening I wasn't able to run A/c on same plug and now running both.

One difference is yesterday I was plugged into an extension cord. Is it more demand when it's hotter or extension cord playing a factor and tripping house breaker?

the hotter it is the more demand there is - makes the flow of electricity work harder.

if you run it off of a extension cord make sure it isnt one of those chincy one's which are usually 14 gauge wire and the feet of the cord makes a diffrence in the wire size as well - it could get hot and melt the cord and cause a fire which could be bad.

15000 a/c 16-18 A @ 109V
Micro wave 9-10 A
Misc Light plugs as used
ceiling fan lights/speed

If battery down basic camper will be higher....

15000 a/c fridge basic camper = 18-21A on 100 degree day
this number can go as low as 14 A when camper cools down....when plugged into house 20 A I feel quailty plug adapter to see it more than barely warm....also feel plugs at camper and surge guard.....without a meter to tell you current flow, you should run fridge on gas....as a/c and basic camper will always be there.....

One other thought.......turn fan only to high setting....and leave it on high
then turn a/c to temp that it won t cut on and off.....that way you eliminate some of the high starting loads.....
